Car Chases on Headline News

I would like to know why does Headline News carry the car chases live, to get ratings for the channel?

...of course it's for ratings. It's worked for years for KTLA in Los Angeles, and it worked here in Phoenix until the fatal on-air crash of the KNXV/15 and KTVK/3 choppers last summer...

TVNewser says HN was #1 Demo during the car chase and back to #4 after....

During the morning they air reruns of Larry King, Showbiz. They really need to change the name over their as they are not Headline News anymore. I guess they just want people to get all the headlines plus breaking news from the main network CNN. With Headline News showing reruns during the morning its helpping the other networks like MSNBC as their showing the headlines. As for Headline News, CNN change the name back to CNN 2 or even CNN Rewind.

The other day our local CBS affiliate in Kansas City aired a car chase from Los Angeles for 40 minutes during their 4:00 p.m. newscast. They blew out at least one break.

Really thats sad. Im sure people in Kansas City want to see news from LA instead of their own local news.

Someday somebody's going to launch a cable channel, perhaps called either Chase!!! or Pursuit!!! Live high speed chases all the time, plus classic chases of the past when nothing is happening.

Why not use a channel we already have and just flip it. Time Warner will own the channel and it will take the place of Headline News.

CNN also needs to change its name because they're also ON SATELLITE as well as on cable.

I'm thinking something along the lines of CSNN.....

Thoughts?

Hasn't Fox Noise covered live car chases fairly often too?

Among other things, yes.

Paris Hilton's court appearance comes to mind here. When that happened, it was as if there was no other news to report. It was as if they suddenly forgot there were troops in Iraq & Afghanistan & a war was going on. Remember that?

Radio networks back in the days of WWII would never get caught DEAD doing that.

...of course, it was people like Bill Paley and David Sarnoff running networks back then, not scum like Rupert Murdoch...
