Car dealer using a similar feathered network logo

Wow!

BTW the logo on the homepage has a design very similar to the original bird (I am not referring to the feathers, but the body of the bird and the "comb" on top) from NBC's Peacock 1956-1975.

The "peacock" logo is used throughout the Mac Haik family of dealerships.

The logo dates back to when Haik, a former Houston Oiler, bought Tom Peacock Chevrolet in Houston and named it "Mac Haik's Peacock Chevrolet".

Full Disclosure: my brother works for one of his dealerships.

Given how NBC has performed lately, I don't imagine they'll be complaining much. They need all the good publicity they can get. :)

Maybe it's Karma at work. In the late 70s. NBC spent a lot of money developing a new logo that was a stylized "N." It turned out that Nebraska Educational Television was already using a virtually identical logo. Nebraska ET sued NBC and they settled out of court, and NBC continued to use that logo until 1980, when the Peacock was added back, superimposed over the middle of the "N." In 1986, the "N" disappeared altogether.

The NBC Peacock was the absolute most brilliant logo design in the history of ... well, logo designs. It was unique, colorful, and immediately identifiable. John J. Graham had a flash of genius when he designed it. Not surprising that others might seek to piggyback a little on that success. Not sure why Haik would have chosen a peacock to represent his dealerships, but.......

Mac Haik isn't alone; Tom Peacock is still in the business of selling cars as its dealerships are located on the north side of Houston. It owns a Nissan & and a Caddilac dealership which is located right next door to each other. The Tom Peacock's logo is completely disambiguated from Mac Haik's logo because the latter took its logo from NBC which unlike NBC, it has 8 feathers and the comb at the top of its head is red, not white. The warm colors is located to the left(Red-2 orange feathers-Yellow), and to the right are the cold colors (Purple-2 Blue Feathers-Green).

When I saw the name of the dealership was Mac Haik Ford Desoto, my first thought was They're bringing back Desotos? But then I realized it was Desoto, TX.  :D

Me too... I thought maybe it was a Chrysler dealer that couldn't give it up

Some of them still have the "Plymouth" signs out front!

Look at the favicon.

True. That's the NBC favicon. Open another tab of nbc.com and compare them side-by-side. Heck, the colors of the favicon bird don't even match the colors of feathers on the dealership's actual logo. Creativity fail.

There a grocery store in my home town, Clovis CA, called Peacock Market that was establisted in the early 50s before we had a NBC affiliate, actually before we had TV period, KMJ-TV 24 was the first station in June of 1954 and was NBC, and the store has a logo with 8 colored feathers, and is still in business today, it's small and ran down, doesn't compete well with the newer big chain stores now, and now is more of a liquor store now as they eliminated the meat department and many grocery items for hard liquor, they should rename it, Peacock Liquor.
