Caribbean Music Coming to WNYH 740

Yea, and with this move those Caribbean pirate stations will now shut off, for everyone will flock to 740 now ;D
 
Yeah too bad, I was enjoying the oldies format in the afternoon. Well, at least its still on during middays...for now. I think it is a huge mistake, I was listening this afternoon and they were giving traffic reports for the city, no LI, considering this is a Long Island station its pretty sad. I miss the days when the FCC made sure our airwaves were to serve local communites.
 
Totally not a mistake at all...the station's owner has the station for the purpose of selling out brokered airtime, and he finally found someone willing to buy a big chunk of time. The oldies is, and has been, filler...and if the "good doctor" finds a buyer for the rest of the hours, the oldies will disappear (unless, of course, someone buys the airtime and plays oldies!)
 
1 Caribbean Radio DJ: Lot's of Complaints About the format flip

I was listening to WNYH's new Caribbean format while on my lunch break today. The DJ who was on the air said they have received a lot of phone calls complaining about the flip from Oldies to Caribbean Music. The DJ said the move was an economical one and that there's a larger population in the Caribbean Demographic than there is in the Oldies Demographic.
 
It's too bad the people who already listen to AM 62 in New York City will not be able to listen to AM 74. The signal is basically unusable in the five boroughs.

And no, I don't want to hear about how you're able to listen using a super-duper radio with a crazy antenna. As far as I'm concerned, if it doesn't show up on a normal listener's Walkman's or clock radio tuner, it doesn't exist.

Growing up, I remember a lot of these air personalities from the Friday/Saturday stints at WLIB 1190 in the early 90s. I'm glad there's something worth listening to on AM 74 now. :)

No INFO on Long Island...Nothing at all. traffic, news, nothing...
Not Even Legal on TOH...not mentioning COL...
Playing the same "Beaner" songs over again the very next day and in the same daypart...
Plenty of "Beaners" in the city on FM and in stereo that the FCC doesn't seem to give a bean about...
No signal of 740 (as you say) in the 5 Boros...
Same older AC songs as available on many suburban AC's now being played to death to space out the "Beaners"
Such a total mish-mosh of AOP (all over the planet) that no one can put it on and leave it alone...
NO TOTAL EXCLUSIVITY OF 50/60's HITS FORMAT YOU JUST DON"T HEAR ANYMORE AT ALL IN "CONSULT CITY"...
AND AS I CAN SEE...YOU ARE IN HOLBROOK...
WELL I"M GLAD ONE PERSON NOW HAS SOMETHING ON THE RADIO THEY CAN NOW CALL THEIR OWN!!! YOU...MUST TRUELY BE THEIR ONE!!!
P.S. Maybe...you ought to consider a move to the Boros...as I assume you alone, are the audience they are trying so hard to serve!

I occassionally have heard local New York area news on 740 and I've heard traffic reports mentioning The LIE and I-95 in Fairfield County mentioning a couple towns including Darien. I'll say one thing it's kind of a hokey operations. I mean I heard a commercial that says "3 out of 4 housewives prefers XYZ Brand Currey Powder". I mean come what the heck is this the 1950s? How many commercials for products on the radio do they say the words "3 out of 4 housewives prefer" in the year 2008?
 
Hehehehe. A lot of those little ethnic full-service stations still seem to run 30 years behind the times. It's part of the fun of listening to them. You know, kind of an anti-slick corporate radio image. :)
