Carl Day passes away

Dayton radio and TV legend Carl Day passed away today at age 72 after a long and courageous battle with a rare form of leukemia. He anchored and did special commentary of all of Dayton's TV stations over the years, and also did stints at WHIO-AM and WING-AM. I had the priviledge of working with him at WING in the late-70's to early-80's era. He was a classy guy with a quick wit and a devasting sense of humor. We had some awesome times. He will be missed. More info is available at DaytonDailyNews.com. RIP old friend. :(

First time I heard of him was on WING doing afternoons when King and Dorsey moved to Z-93's transition from the former WJAI to WGTZ. Was surprised to see him doing the news on WKEF-TV several years later before his move to WDTN. Never knew the guy...but I always appreciated his easy going on-air style. I knew he fought a long hard battle as my dad did over forty years ago(he was a leukenmia patient.)

Rest in peace Carl!

Carl began his Dayton career as the afternoon drive jock on WHIO-AM, where he did quite well. That was before moving to WING, or to television.

The fact that he did all of that amiably and well should tell you something about the man.

He was a product of schools in Fairborn and had followed his career through the country before he came here from Akron.

The Carl Day I've known since 1976 or so was always a good and decent man, an extremely witty, friendly and talented broadcaster...who decided Dayton could be a great place to live and raise a family. We are greater in Dayton for the fact that he's been such a part of the community, and his passing means Dayton has lost an advocate, and most importantly, a friend.

Rest well, Carl. You will be missed.
