Carl P Mayfield

Anybody know what's going on with him? Is he just sitting on the beach? Got something in the works? How about Duke? Is he on the air anywhere?

This is just speculation on Carl P. He's been suggested
for shows on several stations in Nashville since he left
the Zone. Most posters on this board say he's just a complete
jerk to work with. He may be unemployable in Nashville because of
this reputation. I've never met Carl P., but I listened to him for
many years. He's obviously VERY, VERY talented and one of my all
time favorite jocks. Does anyone know if he even wants to be on the
radio again? He's old school and may not like the reality if radio
today.

I think The Duke is doing something for the Saga cluster in Clarksville.

That's putting it mildly. I'd say he's burned a LOT of bridges.

No need to give Carl a hard time: there are LOTS of people
that don't have a problem with him...those that haven't worked with him.
______________

Plus, I can't think of an instance where being a jerk denied any air personality a gig if it was thought he could deliver some ratings. Many well-known jerks have landed big bucks morning gigs, even at stations or companies where it was thought they had once "burned bridges." Speaking of bridges and ex-Nashville jox, where's Bridgewater these days?

My favorite Carl experience...I had the occasion to work in his vicinity a few years ago. As an underling, my instructions were never to speak to him, even if he spoke to me. If he made reference me being in the room or invading his space, do not make a sound. And for heavens sake, do NOT look him in the eye. Never make eye contact! I guess one of us would turn to stone, but I didn't want to find out which one it was. Yeah. Sure. Whatever you say.

When Carl was at WSIX (after the move to the 55 building) I recall
seeing the production director sitting on the floor outside the studio
while Carl was on the air. This was way back...when the spots were still
on cart and had to be updated daily. The prod guy was not allowed to
enter the studio until Carl left. Jeez...this wasn't a social visit.
The guy had a job to do, but no one was to disturb the magic of Carl.
Took a lot of concentration to do Bubba (again)...or that hilarious
P-nuts auto parts bit for the 500th time always killed.
I Carl took a bathroom break (I refuse to say the obvious), then the
carts would be changed: if not, he had to wait until 7pm when the
'show' was over. A real shame...no questioning the guy's talent.
Just got fat lazy and arrogant. OK...not fat.
______________
