Hearst Television has confirmed that one of their staff members for their New Orleans outlet has died in a plane crash.

ATLANTA —
A member of the WDSU Sports team was killed in a plane crash Saturday, according to family.

Carley McCord's husband confirmed to The Associated Press that she was riding in a private plane from Lafayette to the Peach Bowl in Atlanta with friends to watch LSU play Oklahoma.

McCord, 30, was the daughter-in-law of LSU offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger.

McCord was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

She was a graduate of Northwestern State University and Louisiana State University.

Also in this article prior to McCord working for Hearst Television. Article states that she was freelancing for ESPN3 and reported games for Cleveland Browns.

McCord was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She graduated from both Northwestern State University and Louisiana State University; and got her first broadcast job in Ohio as an in-house reporter for the Cleveland Browns.

Among the other positions she held was as a freelance sideline reporter for ESPN3. She also served as an in-game host for the New Orleans Pelicans and the New Orleans Saints.

“Carley was a valued member of both our New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans family as an in-game host and her infectious personality and knowledge of both teams entertained our fans,” the Pelicans said in a statement on the team website. “Not only was Carley an excellent representative of the Saints and Pelicans organizations, she was also a highly-respected member of the media covering sports.”

McCord is the second New Orleans journalist to die in a plane crash this year. On August 16, longtime WVUE anchor and reporter Nancy Parker, 53, was killed while shooting a story in a stunt plane that crashed. Flight instructor and stunt pilot Franklin Augustus, 69, also died.

They're saying on the SW that the plane was probably overloaded and couldn't get enough elevation, fast enough, to clear the power lines.

Weight and balance is always critical on light aircraft. And for safety's sake it is always a better choice to fly on a scheduled airline.

Now there is a statement that one of the Louisana State University Football Team members was told about the McCord Death prior to having that story being confirmed with his coach though.

Louisiana State University quarterback Joe Burrow was visibly rattled when a reporter broke the news to him during a post-game interview about the death of Carley McCord, who is the daughter-in-law of the team’s offensive coach.

“Oh my gosh,” Burrow said when ESPN reporter Dari Nowkhah mentioned 30-year-old McCord’s death Saturday in a small plane crash.

McCord — whose father-in-law is Tigers’ offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger — was among five passengers killed on the trip to see LSU in the Peach Bowl in Georgia when the aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff.

Burrow was unintentionally informed of the offensive coordinator’s loss after the team took home a victory Saturday from the college football semifinal. Ensminger pulled himself together to coach the game in spite of his family tragedy.

“I’m going to have to go see coach now,” Burrow said. “Obviously, he’s a great man, great family.”

And Also an ESPN Pundit is being criticized for the handling of the McCord death.

An ESPN announcer was slammed by viewers on Saturday after referring to the death of an LSU football coach’s daughter-in-law as a “distraction” ahead of the College Football Playoff semifinal in Atlanta.

“Certainly our thoughts and prayers with coach and his family, as he gets to do his job and try to put away the distraction of losing his daughter-in-law just hours before kickoff,” ESPN’s Matt Barrie said on-air hours after Carley McCord, the relative of Tigers’ offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger, was one of five people killed in a small Louisiana plane crash.

McCord, the 30-year-old sports reporter, was on her way from Lafayette, La., to the Peach Bowl in Georgia when the plane crashed in a post office parking lot shortly after takeoff.

The flight’s lone survivor was in critical condition.
