OTR reports he is considering a move to Fox 5 New York City. The new KTLA gm, who has been hiring all the lightweight low-paid talent, isn't planning on renewing his contract which expires this summer.

How to ruin a great station. The current management at KTLA will be able to write a book on it after they get fired.

Has Young Broadcasting bought KTLA? They bought KRON here & refused to pay to continue NBC in 2002. They have let lots of talented people go, replacing them with rookies. I know Tribune Broadcasting owns KTLA.

I followed the story of Young buying KRON and had to put in my 2 cents worth. It's not just that Young wouldn't pay to continue NBC - it's more complex than that. But the bottom line is that the Young people were incredibly stupid, and paid HUGE money for a successful NBC affiliate. NBC wanted KRON for and O&O, but Young outbid them. So NBC was already pissed off, then decided to turn the standard agreement with affiliates on its head by charging KRON to run NBC programs. Prior to that, networks paid the affiliates to run the network shows. All the networks want to change this arrangement, and NBC decided to use KRON to set a precedent. So Young said no, but KNTV said "we'll pay." A few weeks before the switch occured, NBC expressed interest in buying either KRON from Young, or KNTV. Young wouldn't sell unless NBC agreed to pay them back their full investment of about $750 million, while the price tag for KNTV was only about 250 million. NBC decided to buy KNTV, potentially losing about 100,000 viewers, but saving a half BILLION dollars. Bottom line - KRON paid that huge sum of money and got a low rated independent station with no programming. THEN talent started jumping ship - Pete Wilson first, as I remember.

John Kessler jumped to KPIX two years ago & he just got a new 3 year deal last year. Pam Moore & Wendy Takuda are still there. I just watch the news at 5PM. The rest of KRON'S fare is mostly junk like Inside Editionn & ET.

> Yes - KPIX is spending a lot of commerical air time promoting "Kessler and Kohara." Sydney Kohara (on the KGO-TV Morning News for many years) is back after a few years off the air, which is also a plus for KPIX. I don't watch news at that hour, but I remember that Kessler is an interesting witty guy from the KRON Midday News. He's also one of the many succesful broadcasting graduates of San Francisco State University - which I mention since it's my alma mater.

I've always liked Pam Moore and Tokuda..it's interesting that they haven't jumped ship yet, or gotten any better offers. It seems to me I've also seen a few of the KRON assignment reporters on other stations as well. Lisa Feinstein is a sports anchor at KTLA...at least, she was when I visited SoCal about a year ago.

Kessler & Kohara

After Sydney Kohara left KGO-TV she went to London to do Stock market reports for KGO Radio in Ray's T's last hour. Then she went to Hong Kong & worked for Bloomberg (I think) and KGO Radio. She and John Kessler make a good team.

Warren Wilson Has Left KTLA

After more than 20 years at KTLA, he has abruptly left the station. Reported by management to be writing a book now. Hopefully it's a how-to book on how to run a tv newsroom. The management at KTLA needs copies NOW.

Acutally...Leila Feinstein is co-anchoring the 10pm news w/Hal Fishman these days.

Don't get me wrong....I do like Cher Calvin, but I really miss Sharon Tay anchoring the early news (and felt SHE should've replaced Giselle after she left, but they went with Michaela Perreira, who's okay, but she's no Sharon Tay). I'm glad they got Desiree Horton doing traffic now (Bill was just not doing it for me), but even then, Desiree cannot, nor will ANYONE, ever hold a candle to Jennifer York. I felt that they mishandled (KTLA I mean) Jen, Sharon, and even Mindy Burbano to an extent. Now, all that great talent is gone, and now they're thinking of dumping the franchise?! The guy that's been there from the start? Not a good move, in my opinion. Carlos needs to stay.

Lisa Feinstein is a stone fox and still works at KTLA.
