Carly Simon is classic rock?

Carly Simon used to be Classic Rock. That is, her music was commonly played on Rock stations of her era, as was James Taylor and other singer-songwriters. As a matter of fact, I distinctly remember KGON playing their hit version of "Mockingbird" on its first day in 1974!
I have a Lee Abrams memo (from 1991 probably) where he mentions that by 1979, Carly, JT and Carole King were gone from AOR radio and replaced with Heart, Journey, Foreigner, etc. I still have no idea where I got this but I've had it for 30 years or so.

Carly was on WBCY, "Charlotte's Best Rock", in 1978. Broadcasting Yearbook called it AOR but only WROQ was truly album rock. WBCY was close to Top 40.
