Carol Brady and the Mayor

if there was ever a cause to add a "TMI" board on Radio Info......this is it!

I think Mom Brady is a classless fool. Who is to say that what she has to say is true since Lindsay is no longer around to defend himself. Mom Brady is not without fault! Perhaps she got "lonely" often with whatever man she found available. Makes me wonder what the true definition of "Wessonality" is!

She was the entertainer for a local telethon in Louisville, KY called the "Crusade for Children" in the 1970s. The telethon, hosted by WHAS radio and televistion, paid for her to come to town and for her stay at a local hotel. While she was here she ran up a huge bill in room service fees and charged it to the telethon.

I remember being a kid and liking the Brady Bunch, but a lot of the adult men around would refer to Florence Henderson using terms that can't be repeated in polite company. Apparently her reputation preceded her even then.

Even thought she has denied it, I have my doubts that Ma Brady is telling the truth when she says that she and her TV eldest son never fooled around.

Who said this? I read a lot of things, but I never read anything like that. In Barry Williams book he says they went on a date, and he had a serious crush on her, but nothing happened. Or maybe I skipped over that part? Florence said, she knew Barry had a crush on her and agreed to go on a "date" with him not to hurt his feelings.

Lots of adolescents have crushes on older woman.

As for crabs. Well this is a pretty common STD. It's not earth shattering to hear this.

Really. Without wandering back into TMI territory, let's just say that anybody who lived in the late 60s thru mid 70s and took part in even some fraction of the loose living of that era probably has some familiarity with crabs. It's not even really a sexually transmitted disease - all you had to do was sleep in a bed that an infected person had previously slept in. Gross, yes - but not too much different than fleas or bedbugs, really.

I was a bit too old for The Brady Bunch - neither the show or Florence ever appealed to me (though I enjoyed the 90s film parodies), and Florence's "Wessonality" commercials used to drive me up the wall - but it occurs to me that people are being a bit judgmental here. Maybe she deserves that for her little "tell it all" revelation, but still...

Was hoping to find a clip on YouTube, but could not.

On the TV series "Police Squad!", Florence Henderson was one of the "Special Guest Stars" one week, and she was apparently doing a commercial similar to "Wessonality," although she was singing part of the song "Put On a Happy Face"---when all of a sudden she was gunned down! Apparently *everybody* was sick of those commercials!

On that show *every* "special guest star" didn't even last through the opening theme! I think William Shatner lasted the longest, dodging bullets in a restaurant, shooting back at the gunman, then taking a drink.....oops, poisoned....

Supposedly Florence Henderson was a last-minute fill-in on Police Squad.
They had filmed an opening sequence using John Belushi, but he died before they could use it.

I will have to look again, but I think the Belushi ep in question turned out to be the one that used Georg Stanford Brown in his place (dressed as a cop on the beat, when a heavy safe falls on him from way up). I think that's the one, because Brown was already on the staff, I think, and wasn't really actively acting at that time.

I could be wrong on the above....

William Conrad, as the "special guest star" in the final episode, met with the exact same fate (thrown out of a car with a knife in the back) as Lorne Greene did in the first episode. It seemed kinda rushed, to repeat that same scene.

[update]

Now I'm looking at Wikipedia's Police Squad entry, and it says that indeed Henderson was subbed for Belushi.

I know that for the TV run, the episodes did not run in the order they were produced (we know that, because every subsequent episode listed all the previous criminals caught).

So I guess you are right....

I rented Police Squad through Netflix not too long ago and saw in the credits that Georg Stanford Brown directed some of the episodes.

Your second link didn't post.

I did not mean to go OT, so after this, back to the discussion on Florence....

Apparently the 5th Squad ep shown was the 2nd produced, the one with Florence. The criminal, Dutch, was mentioned at the end of each ep except ep 1 & Florence (as far as summarizing past criminals apprehended).

And I knew I saw Georg in the closing credits....just couldn't recall his job. BTW I have this on DVD with commentaries & such.
