Carolla...

So I hear he packed a comedy club for 6 shows in Seattle. Hasn't been on the air in over a year. Did any of you radio peeps in Seattle go see him?

Incredulous.

That was my reaction to hearing Adam sold out 6 shows...but mainly because of the ticket price.

$35.00. Really?

He often does appearances at LA-area comedy clubs either to record his podcast, or specials for iTunes of which he sells the episodes. The ticket prices at those clubs are always $15-$20.

Carolla doesn't even do a standup act! It's pretty much whatever he feels like ranting about. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's tedious. Imagine that the one of the six shows you went to was closer to "tedious".

Look at some of the comedy shows at Parlor Live in Bellevue. Top name national comics who do real comedy on TV, movies and real comedy clubs. Tickets are $20.

Not that Carolla can't be funny and engaging - usually when he plays off the celebrity guests on his podcast. But $35? I ain't THAT starstruck.

It's called Market Value. If 1500 people are willing to pay $35-40 per ticket, that is what it's worth. If it wasn't worth that, they wouldn't have sold out.

Sandy, some folks don't like successful people, e.g., Savage, Carolla, et al.....

I had the incredible opportunity to be at ALL the shows this weekend. I also was lucky enough not to have had to pay a dime. Adam is humble and a wonderful person. One would think...also well liked enough, and funny enough to SELL OUT 6 shows!

Wow, now THERE's a real leap! Has nothing to do with success, just personal taste.

I loved Carolla's morning show. I frequently listen to his podcast. But as I said, I'm not that enamored with his celebrity to pay $70 + drinks for my wife and I to see him in person. I've heard recordings of the live comedy club shows he's done in LA. Most of it is the same ol' same ol' rants. I don't want to hear any more stories about his dislike of Ranchero music or his high school buddies.

I think it would be different if he did actual stand-up comedy or did a show that was different from his podcast. Much of his live show is just him ranting about things, usually from topics the audience suggests. It's the exact same schtick I can hear online. When I go to a comedy club, I want to laugh at funny jokes and a stand up routine, not extemporaneous stream-of-consciousness bitching. Is that so wrong?

(I won't derail this thread to talk about Savage; my comments are in another thread.)
