Carolyn Fox / Rudy Cheeks

Fox and Cheeks. Anybody miss these two? They were very popular at HJY for many years. Now they never even get a mention around here. I see all kinds of other people from the past mentioned on this board. But not these two. It's kind of sad.

If I am not mistaken, they last worked at WWRX before the dreadful WFNX-simulcast flip. Am I correct? If I remember right, WWRX had an impressive line-up in its dying days: Fox and Cheeks in the morning, Rick O'B middays, and Jaxon and the Pharmacist afternoons.

Yes they were on WRX. I remember that Carloyn was still under some kind of contract with HJY. I think they threatened to sue her if she spoke on WRX before her contract was up. So her first couple of weeks on the air it was Rudy speaking and Carolyn was only allowed to make sounds. It sounded like she had a sock stuffed in her mouth. All she could legally do was make noise. As long as she didn't talk I guess it was ok for her to be on the air. It was really funny. WRX was a good station. It deserved to be around longer than it was.

Actually Bill former PD from hjy THEN AT wrx HAD A tv COMMERCIAL WITH cAROLYN WITH dUCK tAPE ON HER MOUTH.She was Fired by WPRO.Dan Yorke replaced her

I guess Carolyn wasn't really what WPRO was looking for. Makes you wonder why they hired her in the first place. They already knew her style. They were probably trying to mold her into a more serious talk show host. I heard her show on WPRO. Any molding of her into something else didn't happen. She still did the same style radio as she did on HJY. Only difference was more phone calls, less music and no Rudy Cheeks. I miss that chick. She was cool. She was Providence's female answer to Howard Stern before people around here even knew who Howard Stern was. I don't even know why she left HJY. She may have got married and wanted to start a family. Someone here probably knows for sure.

This topic has made me remember Red Decker on the old RI104 he may have also been on WRX not sure about that. He was a very funny guy and I used to enjoy him in the morning.

There's one possible explanation. Carolyn was let go just as AM talk radio was becoming monolithically right wing. Carolyn, as we remember, was anything but right wing. So she was let go in favor of righty Dan Yorke. Then again, Carolyn's ratings on WPRO also might never have been what they were on WHJY.
