Carr will be off all next week, so...

During the 6 pm hour today, Howie announced he will be off not just on Monday for Labor Day
but all week long. Evidently he must be burning off even more vacation time accumulated
from Entercom. So...it's more proof he does not intend to stick around the sneaker building
no matter what gets offered.
Still legal stuff to deal with but it's possible that Howie could be down to his last 7 or 8 WRKO
shows (contract due to expire Sept 19) and he and WTKK would hope he could start
on 96.9 by Oct 1...but there are various legal things to hammer out. Assuming he will be able
to jump to FM there could be a period of weeks or months when he's off air (can they enforce
the no-compete clause? is that legal in this state?)

Or maybe he'll just have a couple weeks to do some practice shows and get ready for a month
from today for a 'TKK debut.

And if the Col. fills in for HC next week, well, Hannity's gained another listener...

Will WRKO let him back on the air for a week if they think they are going to lose him?
Will he be locked out like D & C?

Who knows, but you can tell Howie is burning off vacation time--he's said so on air, too. Usually he'll
take 1-2 weeks around Christmas/New Years' and there are other periods of the year where he'll
take part of a week or a whole week, such as around July 4th...but he has taken much, much more
time now and he freely admits he's burning off accumulated vaca time.

As for WRKO's offerings on the Howie Carr Network as a replacement, they have mostly been Avi
Nelson or Col. David Hunt--mostly the latter. I'm not into Hunt's raspy voice though I have been told
he was shot in the throat in Vietnam so it's not quite his fault. Avi is a throwback to another era
and can be interesting and more sedate than most hosts (though can battle it out with the best
of them with passion, if need be). Wish they'd use VB again...who else could fill in...?

When Howie moves to WTKK, how about Matt Allen (from WPRO Saturday mornings and Dan Yorke's afternoon producer/regular fill-in) as a replacement?

Visiting Hours For WRKO at the South Mortuary are Tuesday 2-4 and 6-9. In lieu of flowers please send cash. Burial will be at sea since WRKO has been adrift for many years.

then why do radio? pick something else.

To Casa: as I drove into CT today (daytrip) I heard classic country on two stations,
WESO 970 Southbridge and WGFP 940 Webster. Maybe they can put that on (and the Sox,
too) and forget about talk :)

Song introducing the new country oldies format: Johnny Paycheck, TAKE THIS JOB & SHOVE IT

>>then why do radio? pick something else.

he makes a few bucks and gets to promote his books.

Kind of like Howie when you think about it :)
