Re: cart machine needed

The Radio Home Visitor reading service switched over to MiniDiscs for all our production work years ago and it's worked great. Check your e-mail.

Give a call up to Mifflin County Communications in Lewistown. I'm sure they have one around they arent using. Otherwise, you may want to call Alleghany Radio Network, Carey Simpsons group. Most of there stations still have cart machines in a back room.

Reply to your Saturday e-mail

You said you didn't get my last e-mail, but did see my post. Here's my e-mail reply to today's message:

Hi Roger...

I e-mailed you at this address just before I posted on Radio-Info. I'll post this, also, just in case the mail does not get through again.

>>>what kind of a MinDisc player do you use for your production work and how you wired it up to your system.<<<

Any kind of home Mini is fine; we use several, but you can get by with just one or two (I recommend more than one). The main studio machine's output goes right into the control board, same as any audio source. The production studio machine's input, if you are recording something for later use, comes from that board's output. Same as you would do with a cart machine or a cassette. They are easy to use and you can even put up to eleven characters on the screen to identify each cut. The discs hold 75-80 minutes in as many cuts as you want. You can erase unwanted cuts, add new cuts, move them around, access any cut by the remote control.

>>>Is The Radio Home Visitor Reading Service like The Pell Reading Service For The Blind?<<<

The Radio Home Visitor is one of the original radio reading services. We go back to almost the very beginning of the concept. We are the oldest Main Channel service in the country (you use a sub-channel; we are available on any FM radio) and, except for rare glitches, have been on the air non-stop, 365 days a year, since September 2, 1974. For many years, we were the only main channel service. We have been recognized by CPB as one of the pioneers in radio reading.

By being main channel, we reach not only the blind and visually impaired, but also the elderly homebound of whom there are many in our area.

For some unknown reason, the Lackawanna PAB and the Pell RRS have steadfastly denied our existence in their interviews. I publicize you on my service. There is room for both of us; there is a need for both of us. We don't compete, but fill each other out.<P ID="signature">______________

Re: hint" Call WEMR

Yeah, I have a nice BE 2100 Series recording cart machine....actually, a friend of mine asked for one and I was going to give it to him and he subsequently got another one before I got it to him. It's still in the front seat of my van! I have not tested this machine for recording, but I do know that it plays and stops at the tone. Email me at [email protected] and I'll be glad to donate it to the blind.
