Carvel Commercials

A lot of East Coasters fondly (or not so fondly) remember the low-budget Carvel Ice Cream commercials featuring the gravelly wheezing voice of the late Tom Carvel in the 1970s and 80s. These ads were infamous on the East Coast.

This might be an odd question- but I seem to remember these Carvel ads running at least once on KBHK-TV 44 in San Francisco in the mid to late 80s. Am I imagining this? Patton Oswalt's description of Tom Carvel's voice is exactly the way I remember the ad on KBHK.
They had a location in Berkeley a few years ago, but did Carvel have stores in the Bay Area in the 80s, or did the ads show up as part of some syndicated package KBHK had?

I never lived in New York or on the East Coast, but those Carvel commercials(I saw them in the early 80s on WWOR)made me want to go to Carvel and buy a cookie puss. ;D

Today they are based in Farmington, CT. I vividly remember Cookiepuss! Say...you forgot Fudgy the Whale! ;)

And the outcue for every commercial -- from Tom Carvel himself --

Thank you!

There are still some Carvel franchises out there.

I grew up on the East Coast and the Tom Carvel spots were hugely popular. They were so bad, they were good. But did you know that Cookie Puss & Fudgy the Whale actually used the same cake mold? They were the exact same shape but one was decorated vertically and the other horizontally.

I'm sure it is out there on the www but I remember the SNL parody of the Carvel commercials. Joe Piscopo played Tom Carvel and Tim Kazurinski played the manager of the King of Prussia, PA Carvel store. The store manager was very proud of new treats based on body parts (breast and other appendages).

I remember those spots when I had WWOR on my cable in the mid 80's.
There were some very similar ads run in Pittsburgh by a local restauranteur
named Lou Pappan. He read the copy for his own commercials for his
Pappan's Family Restaurant chain. He had a low, gravely voice and a thick
Greek accent. The ads were memorable because he ended each one by
shouting "And you gonna like it!" in a vaguely threatening tone. (as a kid
I was always slightly afraid to go to Pappans. What is that crazy man
gonna do if I don't like my meal?)
