Cary Simpson's new 1490 AM...

Cary's still making moves with his AM CP for Lemont. Once that's established, you can be sure he will go for an FM translator. I wonder how this works into his non-compete with Forever? All this from the guy who said State College was 'over-radioed'. Is another Allegheny Mt. station around here really worth the trouble? If it's gonna sound anything like WTRN, he's wasting his time. Let's face it, he owned the biggest commercial signal here at one time, and it went down the toilet under his watch. How does someone let that happen, and come back for more? ::)

Why would he come back for more? A hobby, I'd guess.

Or he thinks someone will pay much more for a Class IV AM + FM translator than he sinks into it, once he gets the "combo" on the air. Not likely, but not impossible.

Between the cost of buying an existing translator, land, tower, xmtr, studio gear, legal/engineering fees, etc., how cheap can he get this done--figuring he'll use a lot of scrap currently laying around his remaining AMN sites? Hundred grand?
