CASEY KASEM on 80's on 8

I tuned in today channel (ch 805, directv) 80's on 8 and heard Casey Kasem's old AT40. How nice and refreshing to here these old shows again when Z100 was on the air in Providence. An all 80's station a few years ago they would air these old AT40.
It sounds like some sort of marathon it's been on all day but Casey keeps promoting the show for Sundays at 9 PT and 12 noon EDT with an airing on Thursday nights.

How long has XM been carrying Casey?

They began this weekend with a 3-day marathon. The show will play twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays on both The 80s on 8 and The 70s on 7.

For me the surreal moment of the 80s marathon came when hearing Casey play John Lennon's "Starting Over" from the December 13, 1980 AT 40. Lennon had been killed five days earlier - yet due to the program's production schedule, that AT 40 had been recorded, produced, pressed and shipped to radio prior to Lennon's death.

I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as I remember those AT-40 Flashbacks, or whatever they were called, as I was driving through East Tennessee a few years ago when WKVL-FM 105.3 was 80's. I quickly found myself reaching for the tuner. However, I turned on the marathon this morning and only turned it off for a couple when I went to a local restaurant for lunch. I was also quite surprised when I realized just how much of that show is dedicated to commercials! That in spite of having played more than my share of AT-40's and American Country Countdowns! XM's countdowns were getting done in a little less than two hours while it's a four hour show on radio. I guess when you calculate 10 songs an hour at 3 minutes per song, 50% commercials is about right, but WOW!

Also, I noticed Casey was promoting the show at 12 noon eastern on Sunday while XM's website shows it airs at 10 AM eastern. Which is it?

I live in Columbus and I listened from Columbus to Cleveland and back, which is almost 4 hours in the car. I didn't fliop the channel unless there was a song I didn't like, but came right back. I never spent so much time listening to one particular XM station. It was cool to hear all those songs and the display said what year it was from and that was one of the best parts.
