Casey Kasem's American Top 40

Quite often, I listen to Casey Kasem's show from the 70's on WMJI every Sunday morning. Does anyone know if the show aired in Cleveland during the 70's and if so, on which station? He usually mentions a few of the stations during the show, but I never hear him mention a Cleveland station.

WZZP, Zip 106? WGCL ran it in the 80's also & simulcast Friday Night Videos.

I remember it airing on Sunday mornings on WNCR/99.5. This was 1973. Don't remember where AT 40 went when the station flipped to country for the first time.

I currently listen to the classic presentation via my iPhone on KOOO/101.9, Lincoln/Omaha.

Definitely on G98 in the 70s and into the 80s.

Love to listen to it as well!!! Grew up listening to it in the 70's early 80's on WPEZ - Pittsburgh!!!

I recalled hearing it on 3WS in the early 80s. Perhaps succeeding WPEZ.

WPEZ became 3WS in 1980-81 something around there. Major dissappointment for me as a young kid who loved the hits, not oldies. It was kind of funny they kept AT40 when they were an oldies station and would not touch any of the music Casey was counting down.

I seem to recall 3WS was more of a Hot AC back then (before going oldies). Also simulcast on AM. B94 was the Top 40 station, WDVE the rocker, WYDD was some Top 40/new wave hybrid, and WAMO played the urban stuff. Spent some time in Pittsburgh back in the early 80s.

As I think about it, and Wikipedia'ed it - you are correct. I can remember listening to a more AC version in the early 80's. Nice memory jog. Thanks!!!! 8)

WIXY-1260 took over AT-40 in it's (WIXY's) final few years and stayed on 1260 for a while after, when it was WMGC.

IIRC, after WMGC, it went back to the FM side via WGCL.

Not to keep a Pittsburgh thread going on the Cleveland board, but WPEZ became 3WS Labor Day weekend 1980. They carried AT40 until about 1987. WYDD picked it up after that. 3WS went all oldies in February 1988.

hello guys.
i hope that a radio station in the cleveland area will play casey kasem's american top 40 the 80's soon. i think it will be good to hear it on whlk fm 106.5 the lake. anyone else think this is a good idea? 106.5 the lake sounds alot like wgcl g 98 in the 80's. that is why i listen to the 106.5 the lake online as much as i can. in the knoxville tn area where i live, there is not much to listen to. on most stations it is so much talk with the same 50 songs over and over. yuck!!! jdc 42

102.7 Jack FM (WQSR) in Baltimore, which airs the identical playlist as The Lake (which I assume is CC's Variety Hits Premium Choice feed) airs the 80s version of Casey on Sunday nights

Oh come on, you mean "you don't really get to pick the hits" on the Lake? Am I falling for some marketing hype??? ;)
