CASEY MCCABE ON AMP

No offense to Mr. McCabe, but I doubt he's the reason people are listening to AMP. They don't even have a full staff, so they don't seem to be garnering ratings with personalities. It's the music of course.

Casey is doing an outstanding job as a high energy evening CHR jock on a very fast rising station. His enthusiasm and talent blend perfectly with the concept of the station and it is no wonder he has taken them to #1 in his timeslot. I think AMP has alot more upside potential as friends tell friends and as the station is ultimately fine tuned. KIIS has not had a real direct competitor in probably a decade since Power abandoned going head to head with them as a CHR. I think AMP has been underestimated. If some more high power talent is brought in and a real promotion budget, we may have a new market leader.

The fact that AMP has captured close to 80 percent of the ratings of KIIS without having a morning show, a real promotion budget, and non extensive advertising tells you how well Clear Channel has protected KIIS.

By the way, how is JoJo on the Radio doing on KIIS? Have they made him shut up about the question of the night yet? I agree with him being a high energy CHR jock. I personally love how he's bringing back requests and shout outs on the radio. That's what radio's all about. I remember once I was listening to Star 98.7 back in the day and I remembered Tom Mitchell got in trouble with management for making a shout out on the air. It's funny how KIIS doesn't see AMP as a threat. They think that AMP will just magically fade away. But KIIS hasn't had a Top 40 competitor since Power in the '90s. And the most ironic thing is that it seems KIIS is noticing the impact of AMP. Shutting up Ryan Seacrest...Nonstop music hours...Come on KIIS! AMP is catching up...

I was wondering the same things about JoJo. Is he down in the numbers or did McCabe edge him out? I've noticed they've started doing 60 min. commercial free sets at night on KIIS.

Isn't doing stuff like shout outs, requests and commercial free hours a sign that KIIS is worried about AMP... that now they're trying to differentiate themselves from AMP?

I don't know that I would classify any of these guys as "high energy"... When I hear that descriptive being used I think of guys like MG Kelly or the Real Don Steele on KHJ or TenQ. I find current CHR to be a snooze-fest compared to their predecessors...

Amp is a pretty cool station, even though they've added some stuff to the playlist now that I don't care for. Yes, word of mouth does make a difference - as while I was in L.A, I was telling people about Amp who never knew about it and they loved it. I also preset it in some people's cars, using it to replace one of the stations they already had there.

I love how Amp is on the new music, but at the same time, KIIS and KZZP pretty much are too. Our KZZP in Phoenix is good, however, I hate this thing where they want to play a bunch of recurrents, which is what our KZON has started doing as well. I love the hour blocks of no commercials on KZZP and 18 jamz in a row on KZON. Not sure if both stations having hour blocks of no commercials are related- after all, our Kiss FM has already been doing that for a long time. Not sure about the KIIS in Cali though - in that case, that may be a result to KAMP, but here they've been doing it for a while.

Good luck with KIIS and KAMP. Our KZON (101.5 JamZ) has already surpassed our KZZP (104.7 Kiss FM) once in ratings.... and I'm sure KAMP can also do the same to KIIS! It's only a matter of time...

gary lycan from the oc register posted a article that amp had supassed kiis in 12+, but i haven't seen that book. i have seen amp blow them away in 18-34 but that wouldn't be too hard. kiis is quite vulnerable right now.

I had also seen that the GM of KIIS said "moms and kids love waking up to Seacrest and Ellen K", but since when were moms and kids the target audience of KIIS? Isn't that intruding on KBIG? KIIS needs to watch out. AMP is pulling the moves like KYSR did on KROQ a few months back...I wouldn't be surprised if AMP starts cuming more than KIIS in a year or two. Remember, AMP is rather new, do you think every listener in the LA/OC area knows about it? I still talk to people who had no idea it was on the air.

I think everyone knows of AMP now, I mean who doesn't love commercial free music? Should I be insulted as a fan of FM Talk that no one knew of 97.1 before of AMP's existence?
