Wyoming Casper Cluster Off The Air

I think the owner has not really thought through all the technical solutions out there..... What could it be that costs "hundreds of thousands of dollars" per the owner?

Key quotes

"According to Breck Media Group president and general manager Bob Breck, FM stations KTED at 100.5; KZQL, branded as KOOL 105.5; and KMXW, known as HANK-FM at 92.5, went silent Wednesday afternoon after a key piece of equipment that sends the signals through its broadcast antennae on Casper Mountain failed without warning."

“They’re very expensive replacements,” said Breck, “and from a financial standpoint, being a small local business, we just don’t have the capability financially to fix that quickly.”....

When I read the title of this thread, my first thought was, "Oh no. You mean Mt. Rushmore Broadcasting is in trouble again?" While it wasn't them, it was one of only two commercial broadcasting groups in the Casper area whose stations were streamed live over the Internet. I guess all I can say is: Goodbye!

I suspect all these stations share a tower (there are different coordinates in the FCC database, but the coordinates are so similar they might be a typo). In which case, the tower itself or something mounted on the tower -- like the antenna or feed line -- would seem likely.

Even a modest tower costs a pretty penny.

Mt rushmore broadcasting is a piece of work. the owner is an ex lawyer for a southern california grocery store

northeast digital and wireless/appaloosa broadcast who originally owned these stations, still owns part of them… well the estate does.

The wikipedia page for the Rushmore stations are a fun read too. KQLT - Wikipedia
I have some stories from a former coworker who did some contract work for that group years ago that I can't repeat.

Hopefully Breck can get back up and running, you hate seeing a fully local group struggle. They seemed like good people.

I lived there for a few years and I remember contacting the owner offering help because some of his stations were off the air 50% of the time. He basically told me to lose his number. A friend who still lives there says those stations still are really flaky.

Sounds about right. I know someone who worked for them in Rawlins. Similar story.
