Cassiday Proctor Joining WEDG staff

RAMP reports she's inbound from Cumulus Mainstream Rock KCJK/Kansas City. Stand by for more details on that...

Maybe they hire Larry Gamble who once worked in Denver.
Call it the Proctor & Gamble morning show.
Ahem.

Thank you very much, I'll be here all week, two shows at 9 and 11:30. You've been terrific. Try the veal, they say it's heavenly. Yeah, I'm keeping my daytime gig.

Looks like Cassiday's pulling double duty; she seems to be VT'ing middays for WXKC(Classy 100)in Erie, PA. As Scott's link noted, she's an old hand at this, having done the same thing in Kansas City(the difference was the stations were likely in the same building...not separated by 100 or so miles as 'EDG and 'XKC are).

Joe Russo is also the PD of a station in the Erie cluster, so it's all in the family.

They both moved from KC, and they're both doing double duty.

It helps, too, that Cassiday married into a Buffalo family and this is where she wanted to live & raise a family.

Off hand, do you know which station Russo PD's in Erie? I THINK I can eliminate one of the Erie cluster of stations-WRIE.

According to RadioInk:

In addition to his new role with 97 Rock, Russo will be taking the programming helm at Z102.3/WQHZ-FM, 97 Rock’s Classic Rock in Erie and will also program Cumulus Buffalo’s new Talk1270 WHLD.

According to RadioInk:
97-Rock is in Buffalo, where Joe Russo now lives. Z102.3 is in Erie, and is mostly syndicated with one local show in mid-days. Cassidy is also based in Buffalo. The two markets have been combined under one regional manager. Yes, they're 90 miles apart, but there is significant overlap in SW NY state, in northern PA, and even in some Canadian markets on the north shore of Lake Erie.

Speaking of WXKC Erie, The PD there just got fired in a rather unique way:

Not very "Classy," so to speak.

I remember hearing of the case; the specifics are enough to make me shake my head.

BTW, The Edge has found Cassiday's AM drive partner(per her Twitter account). Anthony Wise is inbound from KSHE in St. Louis; the new morning show debuts on Tuesday(12/14).

Here's an article on the subject. He seems to have a great track record:

Any report on the first day of the "new guy"?

To David: Unfortunately, no. I would have LOVED to do so, however in my workplace(the Buffalo airport-more specifically, the location where I'm based)radio reception is VERY lousy from the boomboxes. We've tried everything to get better reception to no avail.

That said, if Anthony's social media is any indication, he's fitting in just fine. He ripped into one of the local pols who was spouting nonsense about Starbucks(and the recent unionization drive at some of their locations)saying "Shut your Horton hole with all that propaganda."

Nice local reference. But it will take more than a quip like that to even come close to what Shredd and Ragan achieved at 103.3, especially since neither one is a native WNYer.

Neither were Shredd and Ragan when they started in the market. The important thing is that they are live and local. They say they want to engage with local audiences and explore their new home territory. If the audience begins to help them find their way around it could be part of building a nice relationship. There are also major differences in the music played on the stations which should help differentiate the audiences between the two stations. Having a woman as the lead talent also offers a different perspective that may attract more women to the station.

They seem to work well. She's the lead, he's the sidekick. It's a refreshing change. Thursday morning I heard them do a bit about a cream cheese shortage and Kraft paying $20 to replace Christmas cheese cake. The bit wasn't drop dead hilarious, nor was it local, but they worked well with each other. That's a positive. A commercial break followed the bit.
