Castiglione & Avi Nelson - a Pasture Awaits You Both

It is not that Avi Nelson didn't sound good on the air today, it's that he sounded phony.

Castiglione with his ridiculous commentary on a fly ball that was caught really needs some new surroundings.

The new fellow sounds pretty good and to the point (though when I tuned in he forgot to say what inning it was).

Amateur Hour is not acceptable in this major Baseball city.

All due respect to Bill Abbatte, a man I think is a very good rock radio host, and Peter Brock, but
when the former WBCN p.d. wanted to replace Gil & Geno with them, well, that's exactly what I'm talking about.

Gil & Geno for Sox play by play!

Eventually, but right now I'm a few hundred stories up on you, ghost too cowardly to reveal thyself.

I give Avi and Castiglione credit - they at least put their face to it, like I do. People like you make that
echo ring true: CONSIDER THE SOURCE!

A nobody too cowardly to put his or her name.

C'est la vie! :)

Your insults don't change the fact that Castiglione and Avi are stale and annoy people.

p.s. Please post where R & R has credited you.

Castiglione is just fine. Maybe he'll eventually mesh better with Dave. Or, more accurately, Dave with him.

Castiglione has one of the voices which only a Red Sox fan could love. It grows on folks who are exposed to it over a period of time. People hearing it for the first time, or only occasionally (like my wife) think it's grating. I think he's about reached Johnny Most status, where that distinctive voice is all part of the entire package and just seems to belong.

Regards,
TSB

I like Joe. Perhaps you're right about him being a voice only a Sox fan could love. Someone please bring back Ken Coleman.

Actually the best pairing I ever heard was back in the days when Channel 38 had the Sox contracts. Dick Stockton and Ken Harrelson were a great team that would have sounded fabulous on radio.

And the best baseball voice? Jon Miller, whom I could swear I heard doing Sox play by play one season in the 70s.... but I'm sure I'm wrong on that... probably heard him on WBAL during an Orioles/Sox game or something since he was the longtime voice of the O's.

Being a card-carrying member of the Red Sox Nation, I find Joe C's voice fine. I don't like Joe + Glenn as much as Joe + Jerry, but it's okay. The only thing that really annoys me about their coverage is how they never give out the frickin' score or inning. I suppose it's a broadcasting trick to get you to keep listening, but it pisses me off. That's why I love it on the rare occasion I catch a game on WEEI 103.7 because they put the score up via RDS. :)

FWIW, I think Jerry & Don a lot better than Joe & Glenn or Joe & Jerry. I mean, they're Grade-A dorks and waaaay too goofy to be "professional" broadcasters but that style makes me laugh so I don't care. Jerry's riffing on Don's (admittedly awful) fashion sense has been an amusing counterpoint lately. I suppose it's easy to laugh when the Red Sox have the best record in baseball, too.

Anyone remember "for the full-figured man" last season? ;D

Joe and Dave are fine in my opinion but I'm not warming up to Geffner (neither is 38cliches.com).
He skips over words, much like Menino does, when he speaks ("so Ortiz scores and now the
Red Sox are within 6 to 2". Huh? (Think he meant "the Sox are back to within 4 runs, it's 6 to 2")
Have heard that 2 or 3 times.
he may have made some slight improvements (maybe talking a bit slower these days) but I feel
better listening to Joe & Dave than Joe and Glenn...)

I've given Geffner a chance. He's the one that needs another job. There is NO chemisty between him and Castig. He sounds like a high school announcer. Listening to him call the game while on my way home last night was painful. This is what happens when Larry Lucchino gets to pick the announcer. I think the woman who played the Tessie character would probably be better. Kenny Casey from the Dropkick Murphys would be better! Incidentally, off topic, but whatever DID happen to the Tessie bit at Fenway?

Sonic Al, I like the tone of Geffner's voice, but you are correct, he is High School radio material as far as substance. But, i'll take that over mr. Waaayback Wayyybacck....

you can't create a "Yeah Yeah Yeah" catch-phrase like the Beatles made, or Arnold's "I'll be back" slogan.
When Arnold pushed "talk to the hand" twice in Terminator 3 it was as contrived as Way back...waybacccckk...
please

So at least Geffner doesn't give us the feigned excitement

I don't know about that... I heard his call of 'Tek's homer today. I have to admit it was the first time I'd heard much emotion.

Hey Mr. Microphone, I did represent the band "Spirit", Rolling Stones producer Jimmy Miller, Danny Klein of the
J Geils Band, but never 10CC. I did enjoy their single ""You Didn't Like It Because You Didn't Think Of It" when people were raving that they might be "the Beatles" in disguise (they and Klaatu!), but their name was
Hotlegs back then.

Oh wow, Wikipedia has the info, who needs an encyclopedia like me when you have Wikipedia?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You_Didn't_Like_It_Because_You_Didn't_Think_Of_It

However, I am a Sox fan and - as I review records I listen to, reviewing a poor performance by alleged sports "authority" types is a no-brainer.

Who are you, Ron Borges?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Borges

On March 4, 2007, Borges was caught in plagiarism allegations after an online reader on ESPN.com's New England Patriots message board revealed that there were extensive similarities between a March 4 article by Borges in the Boston Globe and a February 25 article written by sportswriter Mike Sando of the Tacoma News Tribune.

NOTE WHAT I WROTE:
I give Avi and Castiglione credit - they at least put their face to it, like I do. People like you make that
echo ring true: CONSIDER THE SOURCE!

Seeing that you are "Mister Microphone", you call into that limbo category - someone with no credibility.

Geffner may be getting better with home run calls, etc., but he still sounds like he has a thin voice. I almost
expect to hear Joe saying, "and, sitting in with us today, we have a young man named Glenn Geffner.
How old are you, Glenn?"

"I'm 13--uh, I'll be 14 on Thursday" :)

(he sure sounds a bit too young...and you thought Epstein was young!)

Now that Borges is Globe-free will he do WEEI? ESPN 890? Both?

Ron Bore-us, you mean, the plagiarist. If Ron Borges, Jeff Jacoby, Patricia Smith, Howie Carr and Mike Barnicle all were in a room, which Edgar Allen Poem would they steal first and put their own name to it?

Carr is the worst - sanctimonious yet he will liberally take from people who leave messages on the chump line and attribute that material to himself. Kind of like the Globe's NAMES & FACES though Howie never puts "and other sources..."

Do you think Borges was "retired" or fired?

Keep him off WEEI.

I'm proud to say that Howie has stolen my material...no big deal to me. He also has
been known to do "research" for a story by having people call up during a topic
discussion or during the Chumpline ("tell me, why don't YOU come into Boston anymore?"
Results posted in Howie's column...)

"Fung Wah is Chinese for 'bus is on fire'" (which I posted on Free Republic)
& the "Borat" nickname for Berdovsky (one of the two Cartoon Network
pranksters; ditto. Actually Berdovsky is orig. from Belarus not Kazahkstan)
