Castiglione does it again...

7:28 PM on Saturday night, 6/30/07 - bases loaded - "It's a long fly ball, ...(you almost hear the ghost of
Way Baccck...way baaack....)....HE CAUGHT IT

Can you believe it? He caught it. Yawn...

in the meantime I've notice Glenn Geffner's annoying habit of doing this:

"And the run scores, and the Red Sox are back to within 4 to 2."

Note he doesn't say "and the Red Sox are back to within two runs, it's 4 to 2". Misses a few words.

I mostly
am watching the game tonight though for a moment I popped into my bedroom and had it on a clock
radio. WRKO was slightly "ahead" of NESN...that old HD-delay.

And speaking of Castiglione, whenever Howie points out that part of his show
will be pre-empted by the Sox, they play a cut of Joe saying "Can YOU believe it?"

at least he doesn't wet himself over Roger Clemens being in Steinbrenner's box... like Suzyn Waldman did... I don't have a problem with his calls. At least half of the classic Sox announcing duo is left. Let's see, if this is the alternating Saturday when there's a full moon, then O'Brien announces, right? Unless it's the first Saturday of the month with a solar elipse--then Glen gets to call the game.

oh my goodness gracious, all is NOT well in Steinbrennerland. Lost to A's and were one-hit...AND:

>>His temper already smoldering, Scott Proctor set off an inferno near the Yankee Stadium infield following Saturday's 7-0 loss to the A's, torching various items of his equipment in a smoky blaze.

Ownership prerogative: any broadcast team they choose. But something is missing this year, and I'm not just talking about Trupiano (who is missed). You would have to think Joe is not secure.

Left a message for the Big Show, Raccoon - Roger Clemons wants to toast marshmallows on Scott Proctor's bonfire. A few days before the fourth...

Anyone notice the Whiner Line "Retains all rights forever and in any way we wish to use 'em with no compensation whatsoever to you..." (paraphrased)

btw at least two members of this board could be heard on WBZ/Jordan Rich movie night tonight.
"Bob From Beverly" in first hour (me); and someone named Paul who expressed interest in
"Casablanca" (he's called before on movie nights). Assume it was he.

Where are Curt Gowdy, Ned Martin, Fred Cusick and Bob Wilson when you really need them? Also.....where is Guy Mainella, Larry Glick, Eddie Andelman, Mark Witkin and Jim McCarthy?

Andleman is on 96.9 on Sunday nights... and it is painful to listen to. Last week this supposed sports show spent a good 15 minutes with a caller discussing the finer points of auto insurance fraud before they got onto the reason for the call, which was to discuss the goings on with the Bruins and their search for a new coach.

I'm in your court, Valv.

When I first moved back to New England and heard the "new" Sox announcers, I wasn't thrilled. Typical call went like this....

"Here's a long fly ball to deep left, way back......way back.....way back......this one is.....caught by the shortstop Garciaparra."

Pathetic. That said, we could have way worse as pointed out.

I would like to answer the last post. There are those of us who remember what radio once was in the 1960s. Any hostility on any message board on here is a show of frustration by all of the people who got into the business because they were enamored by the greatness of the personalities and stations of past generations. The frustration and hostility come with the realization of having it waved in your face every day just how much the entire radio industry has gone down the toilet over the past forty years.

Well said, Radio Truth, there is no point in rewarding low quality broadcasters with applause.

Joe Castiglione's voice is imprinted on millions of people's lives and memories. We have no say in the matter.
It isn't like a bad day on the Howie Carr show where you can flip to Oldies 103 (and thereby flip Howie the bird), no, you are forced to hear some nauseating guy with his lack of finesse talk about our beloved RED SOX.

It isn't fair. Waaay Back Trupiano http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Trupiano
was not as grating or as harsh. Ned Martin while he was alive should and could have continued play by play. Instead he was replaced by a yo yo.

Also, Webcastboy, yer claim that " A lot of the other cities' RadioInfo boards are quite professional and pleasant..." fails to recognize that the RadioInfo mods do more sweeping and cleaning in other rooms lately than they've had to do here... So that pristine "non-hostile" feel is an illusion.

Few cities have a franchise like The Boston Red Sox. Joe Castiglione is the radio version of Heathcliff Slocumb

http://www.baseball-reference.com/s/slocuhe01.shtml

the only difference is that we traded Slocumb for Captain Jason (Varitek, not Wolfe) and Derek Lowe.

Too bad we can't trade Castiglione for Sean McDonough...oh well...

http://www.starpulse.com/Athletes/Varitek,_Jason/

Remember, if Varitek married me his name would still begin with Var...

"Round up the usual suspects."

You guys and gals crack me up when you make fun of Sue the Yanks announcer. You would have been twice as pumped had your darling Roger wrapped it up here in Boston. Joe Castig is the worst in baseball or any sport for that matter. He gets the score, the outs and everything in between wrong on a daily basis. His voice is crap and to think he teaches this stuff. If he's so high and almighty why isn't he working for the networks...the answer is because he's a yes man and everyone sucks except the sox...For that matter on the tube why hasn't remdog made it to the bigs on an everyday basis ? the answer because he's not as good as you think and he was a below average player unlike mccarver, hersh, sut & more and his sidekick has a limited vocab and gets hyped over a foul ball....

7:38 PM Monday July 2: "IT'S A LONG FLY BALL (from Lowell)...he hit it off the end of the bat...it's caught...

Castiglione deceives the listener with his excitement that every hit is solid and will get results.
Maybe Castiglione can face a class action suit for violating MGL 93 A "Deceptive Business Practices",
all he does is deceive the listener, get their hopes up, and sets them up for a BIG let down.
TV viewers don't have to put up with his ceaseless b.s.

Now to be fair let's compare Joe Castiglione to his peers: 7:59 PM on TV, Orsillo and Remy were very measured when Manny hit a ball that should've been a home run but turned out to be a double.

Why can't Castiglione - after all these years - be a little more measured?

Why can't WRKO just run the TV broadcast - they do a fine job - Orsillo and Remy are EXCELLENT.

prima facie evidence for what Castiglione has been doing for years is in tonight's dual broadcasts -
7:38 on WRKO and WBOQ, 7:59 PM on NESN You be the judge.

Note to BRING BACK F-105 - thank you for saying what some people are afraid to say about the "sacred"
Castiglione. However you are wrong about Remy, he's a quality broadcaster.

Yeah, we would have been thrilled to pay Rogah $28M for his 1-3 record. I wonder how Suzie feels now about her heart throb?

No thanks. Most intelligent fans wanted no paht of Rogah.
