From what I understand. some cablecos used a converter with A and B sides for channels...hopefully, someone else out there can better explain this; I'm drawing blanks on Google!

What does A side and B side mean back in 1982 for cable?

My thinking and my guess are to offer more channels while only offering 13 channels in total, if that makes sense.

it was an A/B box that cable companies put on the back of the converter box or ran to the TV. I remember my aunt having that in Minneapolis. The cable co ran 2 lines into the house into a simple A/B box as seen below. This is when there were 36 slots (2-36) but Minneapolis had a ton of stations so 2-13 were the same (locals) on both A&B. The more common cable stations were on the "A" side and the others were on "B"
