Cat Country 107.3

North Jersey needs a station like Atlantic City's Cat Country 107.3 They have great personalities and play a nice selection of music. Thanks Cat Country for streaming on the web! Maybe NYC's hosting of the CMA's will help the cause in the North Jersey area.

I'm surprised that no one has decided to try out the country format in Northern New Jersey that past couple years. There was Bear Country 1360, but that didn't last long. I'm surprised that even no AM tried country. I guess if Northern NJ country music fans want to hear their music, it is cds, ipod, or CMT. Also Music Choice "Today's Country" and "Classic Country".<P ID="signature">______________

New Jersey has plenty of Oldies on AM (1170 WWTR, 1250 WMTR, 1260 WBUD, 1340 WMID, 1360 WNNJ, 1410 WHTG, 1440 WMVB, 1500 WGHT, 1510 WRNJ) and even some Adult Standards (1160 WOBM, 1160 WVNJ, 1230 WCMC, 1310 WADB), but no Country. In fact, the only licensed radio station in New Jersey with a full-time Country music format is "Cat Country 107.3" (WPUR) in Atlantic City. The last few to have Country on AM were 1310 WJLK (until 1997 or so; now WADB), 1070 WKMB (until January 2003), and 1360 WNNJ (until 2004?).

If you have a good radio, though, in many areas of NJ you can pick up 92.5 WXTU from Philadelphia or "Cat Country 96" (96.1 WCTO) from Easton, PA. The combined signals of WXTU, WCTO, and WPUR cover everywhere in NJ except the northeastern corner of the state.

Re: North Jersey/Country Music

One of the problems is North Jersey signals are mostly hijacked by NYC. Which is alright for the most part because NYC signals cover North Jersey just fine. But, when you look around the state there's really only two stations (on the FM side, the only place it would make sense) that are possible candidates to pick up Country. WMGQ in New Brunswick & WDHA in Dover. Both stations would likely do well with Country but do well enough as formatted now to not risk a change.

Not exactly sure that Greater Media, no matter how desperate, would be quick to jump into a format change for Country. I'd say WCTC would have the BEST shot since that station has tanked to say the very least. Then again at night its a waste of a signal...

I've been "broadcsting" WPUR's webcast on my super flea power FM station, covering a whopping 150 feet, so I can enjoy Cat Country anywhere in the house or back yard on 88.7. Driven by an old Gates Solid Stateman AGC, it sounds pertty good. I really miss WKMB and its mix of current and old school country and Bob Hunt's warm morning show delivery.
