CAT COUNTRY PD JOB? ANYTHING YET?

Deadline for applications was June 15. Nothing yet on anyone hired and Cat Country is very quick to give news to All Access so I guess no one's been hired yet. I still wonder what "on air PD" signifies. Is someone leaving or just staying in an off-air capacity? Probably not the latter if the PD is gonna be on air.

"On air PD" could simply mean he's subject to going on the air when needed. It doesn't necessarily mean he'll have a regular shift. Rick Everett fell into that category.

Locals or outta State?

Just an uneducated guess that if they were locals the interviews wouldn't have been by phone. I don't see any working Providence PD making the move there unless it's to escape the bureaucratic ball game where he's at, but there are some non-working locals qualified to program the station. Now the question is are there any bygones that have to be overcome.

I was wondering if possibly Robby Bridges could be after this job. He did leave on good terms and went to a smaller market but at a station with great numbers in Bridgeport. I always thought he might end up in programming but with his attitude towards radio I doubt he would look at any station in Providence as having the potential to sound like he would want it to other than WCTK and WPRO-FM. Then again, if this job entails being on the air only when needed I wonder if he's too much of a ham to want to get less air time. If Rick Everett or Kevin Lawrence were to get the job I wonder if would have been decided by now given that both are local and one already works there.

Robby is a good albeit retro jock but too into Robby to really handle programming a station. He's in his own world playing to the active listeners who give him accolades and active listeners are in the minority. He's always been looked at as one of the premier jocks of the Providence market but part of that is due to his having gotten into radio when he was 10 years old. I'm not saying he doesn't do a good job but don't think he's the type that's gonna worry about much other than his own show and the endless self promotion that goes along with it.

I have to disagree here Moonstruck. Robby is a talented jock, absolutely! But in 2009, when you're a jock, self-promotion is the only way you get it done. No one does it for you. I salute Robby for taking the bull by the horns and not sitting back and whining that he doesn't get the gigs or attention he deserves. And that would translate into a great PD as well. Somone who fights for their station and their jocks. Trust me when I say Robby knows radio inside and out. He'd be a great choice for CTK, and they'd be stupid not to hire him.

I don't doubt Robby could be a good programmer but it's more a matter of his being focused so much on himself as a high profile personality. This job may not even involve a daily shift as someone said, but fill in when needed. Then again this is all hypothetical as no one knows if he even applied for the job.
