Cat Country showing in Boston book

It looks like Cat Country 98.1 is the only Providence station making a measurable showing in the Boston 12 plus numbers. I'm guessing that's because Plymouth County is part of the Boston market. There can be no other reason when you check Arbitron's website and market definition for Boston. I also wonder how much diary placement plays a part in Cat Country's Providence numbers when it comes to what I think is a heavy southeastern Massachusetts listenership as opposed to greater Providence itself. Any ideas?

Actually... there are two:

Cat Country: .6
WEEI: .5

Not when they have WAAF & WZLX, with a clearer signal

HJY is a Providence phenomenon. Paul & Al & Charles are heritage in this market but mean nothing to people in Boston. Musically I guess they're where they should be but there's nothing there Bostonians can't get in their own market. As far as Plymouth County diaries contributing to the Boston numbers, country is not a niche format, but I don't see people in that area being loyal to either Boston or Providence in terms of market itself. WCTK is a New Bedford station & does a good deal of promotion in nearby Massachusetts. Frankly I'm surprised someone towards the Cape didn't flip to country by now. WCTK may not be all that vulnerable but there have been changes at the station over the last year & more changes coming (see my above post). Those changes, good or bad,add some vulnerability. If someone towards the Cape went country with local jocks & promotions they could very well eat into WCTK's audience. Then of course it's a matter of selling it.

Diary placement affects ratings in every market.

Just wait until the PPM comes to town!

At least 3 yrs off...they are still working the bugs out in Philly and last I heard, the top 10 markets might not even be ready until the end of the yr, beginning of next and providence being in the 30's would not be until 2nd to 3rd roll out

And that's when Hot 106 gets seriously screwed if they're still urban.

I really don't think so.....from what I've seen from the #'s coming out of Philly and my travels around the city for work.....they still have a good shake. Unless things radically change at WHJJ and WHJY, they might be the most affected of the stations in Providence....you just don't hear those stations coming out of stores, cars, etc.....

HOT 106 IS NOT URBAN ! HOT 106 is CHR/R !

The biggest shock down here looking at the PPM numbers is how well WOGL does. WOGL is an oldies station that evolved into a 60s/70s hodge podge. CBS was ready to kill it, but compared to the Arbitrons, the station is still very strong in the target demos. This is part of the reason rumors are abound that WCBS-FM is coming back soon. B101 should get a nice boost once the PPM comes to town if this is an indication of a nationwide trend.

Good then maybe B101 will get a budget for a live midday show.

I doubt CC will let B101 go live during the midday. Seeing that Ed McMahon is cost effective tracking multiple stations. Same goes for nights at SNE. I don't see Deliah leaving as well.

Hey Jeff,

Are you referring to B101 here in Philly or WWBB in Providence?
