cat is out of the bag

well i guess the cat is out its really sad that the syracuse market has to ruin a great fm signal and go to talk with all the am's being talk 105 9 has a great signal fair to mid processing love that jingle package they should have gotten rid of " jayne" had more live on air..... i really did like that format... and how can i get those jingles for my collection

I gotta say that I enjoyed the music on the station as well. My only problem was being called "Light". Rick Gary sounds good on Mimi's station at 102.5 and they call it "The Mix". "Sunny" is the worst radio station name ever but the people on the station sound great. Nothing against the new talk thing either. Youre not gonna dent Galuski/Reith, but at least its a first. They should give 95x a good morning show too :) . THAT is the best chance for dominant growth potential in this market. They are just a bit off target with it. They need to think outside the normal like Stern (Who was poo-poo'd) when he came to market. Join me tonight, Im throwing CD's to the roof of the Carrier Dome to celebrate #1 in the polls and an awesome season.

Don't be so harsh on Tom or any other PD who denies your request for jingles. In almost every single case, the jingle companies retain the copyright to their jingle packages. Most stations* only license market-exclusive rights to use the jingles; they never actually own the jingles outright. In other words, stations are basically "renting" the jingles. Usually* a station will pay a significant cost up-front to have the jingle package customized for their use, and that's followed by an annual licensing renewal fee.

But because jingle companies often try to sell the same jingle packages to different markets across the country (or the world, for that matter), the jingle companies retain the copyrights. As a result, if Tom Mitchell (or any other local PD) denies your request, it's not necessarily because they're trying to be a prick. It's because those jingles aren't theirs to give you. Not sure if any other PDs have honored your requests before, but if they have, they probably broke a rule by doing so, whether they realized it or not.

* I say "usually" and "most stations" because, on occasion, a station might go ahead and "buy out" a jingle package when they want totally exclusive use of that package... but usually we're talking major market stations (NY and LA) or national entities like SiriusXM or BBC, for example.

This is True. Tom Mitchell cannot give out the Jingle Package without getting into a whole lot of hot water. I wonder what Bob would say about my Top of the hour ID on RadioHits.US? Everything is good here Gary I hope you are well.
