Catches from the pr-d9

Hello to all. I wanted to start this topic to talk about the catches I have gotten and will get on my sangean pr-d9. This is defanatly the best portable radio I have ever owned. The reception on the weather band, AM band and FM band are incredible. I have had it since 8 PM last night and this is what I have heard thanks to this radio. Keep in mind, most of this stuff I have not heard since this radio came along. First off, I got 880 wcbs from new york last night. I also got wjXR from the Jacksonville area when with a 100000 watt station on 92.3 on the next channel. I got classic country on 1170 am. Any ideas? Is that WSOS from ST. Augustine? I thought that station was oldies. I only listened for 5 minutes or so. I heard a dj talk but no mention of the station name. Oh yeah. I'm in Altamonte Springs Florida right outside of Orlando. I have also heard 820 from Tampa without a whole lot of trouble even with 810 WRSO next door. This radio is what I have been looking for for years. I defanatly recommend it if you are not looking for shortwave and still want a good DXing radio. I have also heard 103.3 from Daytona even with 103.1 next door. This radio's sensitivity is the best I have seen. I think it's right up there with car radios. I have heard the weather station from Tampa, Melbourne, Daytona and Orlando on the weather band of this radio. So if any one has ideas on the 1170 catch, let me know. I'll go listen again to see if I can catch an ID. But I have a good feeling that may very well be ST. Augustine.

Hello to all. I have the answer to my own question. ahhahah I totally forgot about WKFL in bushnel. That is the station I get on 1170 with this radio during the day. Now last night, I had wbbm from chicago, wcbs again and wwva. I had not heard either wwva or wbbm here before. This is my third day with this pr-d9 and it keeps blowing me away with it's reception.

Any Cuban/WZAB interference with WCBS?

I'd be interested to know what Tampa AM stations you can get midday.

I'm sure you can hear 970 WFLA but I wonder how strong.

And what Tampa FMs can you hear?

In my drives through Orlando, 93.3 FLZ is always there and listenable but it's a little choppy that far out.

Even though I've passed through your area many times, I've never had time for any serious DXing because you can only do so much in the car with that crazy Orlando traffic. I stayed in Orlando a couple nights last summer but forgot to take my PR-D5 and I only had my little Walkman.

A couple other nighttime AMs you might want to try for is 1060 KYW and 1210 WPHT Philadelphia. You probably should have less interference from the Cuban stations than I do here in Tampa which makes both stations very hard to hear these days.

When I first came down here in the 80s, they were easy catches at night.

And since you're not too far from Daytona, you may want to one day take your PR-D9 to the beach there and see what you can get on AM midday.

I'm still convinced I got a trace of WCBS along with weak WZAB there with my Sangean PR-D5 by process of elimination of what station had to be fluttering behind WZAB which was also very weak.

At night, WCBS and WABC come booming in at Daytona Beach because most of the path is on the ocean. They don't come in nearly that well here in Tampa.

Here's WCBS.

Here's WABC.

So a trip the the east coast of Florida is well worth it for some DXing with your PR-D9.

Hello. Believe it or not, I only heard one cuban behind wcbs but wcbs was more dominant. In terms of tampa stations, I get 970 the day. I have gotten 820, 1250, 860, 910 from the plant city area and 1110. I have gotten 1010 as well. In terms of fm 94.1 93.3 94.9, 95.7 with Daytona, 99.5 with the station from daytona depending which way i turn the antenna 101.5, 100.7, 103.5 and I have even gotten 104.7 I have also gotten 92.5 at times as well. 105.5 is a regular catch here as well. Of course I can get 97.9. Now I have gotten 107.3 and 97.1 but we have reach fm translators on those freqs so the conditions have to be right for me to get those stations. I can no longer get 102.5 because we have a smooth jazz translator on the freq. I would be interested to see how this pr-d9 does when that freq is open. I also used to be able to get true oldies wjbq on 106.3 until another translator came on that freq.

The 102.5 is translating WMGF-107.7 HD2, which is smooth jazz. Replaced the old WLOQ.

Hello to all. I wanted to bring this one back. I have had this radio for a month now and still love. It does pretty good in a car as well. This is the first radio that can get good am reception in a car. It is good on fm as well. There is not much that can dent this radio's reception. That is for sure. I went through 2 units and the third one i got was good. I love amazon. ahaha The first unit developed a squeal on the am band. the second unit had a consistent hiss in the left channel which made it unlistenable. I'm glad I stuck with this radio because it has been worth it.

Hey austingrace, I do enjoy my PR-D5, although I must say that my DX-440 still have the upper hand on the MW DX side of things. I have received Saudi 1521 kHz. And the RDS came in very handy, reading "MPB THINK RADIO" on 91.3 during some e-skip, the source being Jackson Mississippi's WMPN 1175 miles south of my location.

Damn I miss this radio so much. LOL But it has been replaced by the hdr16 and the cc ep. But this is the radio that reignited my love for DX. At that time, my pl380 just stopped working and I was so angry that I was so done with expensive radios at that time.
