Catholic radio station launches
St. Gabriel Radio Inc. launched the region's first Catholic radio station on Monday.

The station, Marysville's WUCO-AM (1270), switched from country music to Catholic radio on Monday. St. Gabriel said it is the first Catholic station in the 23-county Diocese of Columbus, the company said Monday.

The station is intended "to evangelize, to educate fellow Catholics about their faith and to teach people the truth," Chris Gabrelcik, president of St. Gabriel Radio, said in a press release.

St. Gabriel Radio is based in Mt. Gilead and was established as a nonprofit corporation. Organizers hope to raise $2 million in startup funding this year, then rely on listener donations in the second year. St. Gabriel Radio plans to build a studio in Lexington and is negotiating to lease a station in Columbus.

The station relies primarily on programming from Eternal World Television Network, a Catholic broadcast network based in Irondale, Ala. It plans to eventually obtain programming from other sources, including Spanish-language programs.

What station would lease them time? I can only think of 1550 WDLR and 1580 WVKO-AM as a possiblity.. Maybe 103.1 WVKO-FM if they are in need of money.
______________

Radio poor Union county, great chance for Saga to spin off Smooth Jazz 104.3 which is licensed to Richwood and make it a radio center for Union county instead of trying to be a Columbus station. Of course they should do the same thing with 107.9 in Delaware.

Did the owners of WUCO sell, or is this a lease arrangement? Is their WPTW, Piqua next?
______________

Looks like they were sold. Check radioandrecords.com on last Fridays transactions.

Same outfit bought a non-com licensed to Lexington, Ohio, which, if I recall, is up near Mansfield. A small "Class A" equivalent with around 800 watts.
