Cavaliers move to 95.5 The Game

The only reason I knew about this was I was checking 95.5's website to see if they had corrected the program schedule error (everything in Pacific Coast Time). They haven't fixed that part. But I caught where they have a promo stating they're Columbus' home for the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs' website confirms it.

So 95.5 has play-by-play for the fall / winter, albeit Cleveland teams. When I lived in Columbus in the mid-2000's they were on 1230. And then at some point 97.1 supposedly picked up the rights, as they were listed as one of the affiliates on the team's website. Did 97.1 actually have the Cavs' rights in Columbus? I can't see how they would've been able to air many games, considering they had Ohio State and the Blue Jackets.

From what I remember those games aired on ESPN 1460 so this is a upgrade for the Cavs in Columbus.

I don't ever remember 97.1 airing the Cavs.. so I think your right... 97.1 has a busy sports schedule in the Winter months as is with tOSU Men's and Women's basketball games.

Looks like The Game might have a chance with the rights to the Cavs and the Browns. The FM sports station in Cincy has no major Ohio team on their station yet since CC has all the rights to the Reds and Bengals.

I remember when 97.1 was Mix, they used to cut away from the music to play tOSU football & basketball games. I'm sure that thrilled their female-targeted audience. I never understood why they did this until I found out the Wolfe family had a long-term contract with tOSU.

Not to mention their signal got into all the areas 1460's night signal couldn't reach. At some point, they cut back on the number of basketball games to only air those at night. I personally had no problem with 97.1 airing all the Buckeye games they could. I enjoyed the music on both the oldies and Mix 97.1 incarnations, and as a Buckeye fan, I didn't have to change the channel.
