Cavaliers to 850?

Just saw this FS Ohio announcement on my Facebook page ... are the Cavaliers moving??

FOX Sports Ohio Watch FOX Sports OH today @ 4pm EST for LIVE major announcement regarding the Cleveland Cavaliers. Austin Carr, Jeff Phelps and 850 WKRN's Kenny Roda will be in studio for this special presentation.

Never mind ... I have since read it's for LeBron winning MVP. I just found it curious that WKNR would be in on it.

Well, that was a no-doubter. (LeBron getting the MVP, that is.) But I am surprised that Kenny was there... and not Mike Snyder. Or Fred McCloud. That is really, really odd o_O

And to answer the thread question... no. WTAM's contract with the Cavaliers lasts until... what, 2020? (Seriously, I think it's until the 2011-2012 season, but I could be wrong.) Plus, WKNR's night signal is nowhere near the strength of it's old 1220 signal (although it would be compromised by WPHT/Philadelphia's IBOC hashish) and it would require the Cavaliers to sign up a dozen or so more affiliates to make up for that. In fact, that DID happen, when WRMR/850 served as Cavaliers flagship in the late 80s.

Sorry for beating that horse to death.

Well, let's see here...

Kenny Roda IS on FS Ohio as the sideline...er...siderink?...reporter for the AHL's Lake Erie Monsters, which of course, are owned by the Cavaliers' Dan Gilbert.

It could be as simple as that.

I don't know what else he does for the network, and don't THINK he does anything for the Cavaliers' TV broadcasts.

As far as the contract? We've talked about this before. It'll take a magic crowbar to pry it out of Oak Tree. And if the Cavaliers win it all this time around? Whew.

WTAM has incredible nighttime coverage. I'm not sure how many other teams have a flagship station with a signal that reaches as many states as WTAM does...

The only other one I can think of is WOAI (1200) with the Spurs. They're easily received in all but the northwest and northeast corners of the continental U.S. at night. Then there's WMVP with the Bulls, but their night signal is directed east away from a co-channel in Seattle so while Ohio and many other states get a monster signal at night, its null covers most of the Midwest.

WMVP has great coverage anywhere east of Chicago, but if you go west forget it.

WFAN/66 in New York has the Nets. Prior to that, 66 was the flagship of the Knicks since their days as WNBC. Way back when, I have also heard WPHT/Philly simulcasts a 76ers game or two from sister station WIP...
