I'm a bit surprised at the lack of discussion on the strike at CBC.

As I posted in the other Canada forum, I'm glad to see that CMG stuck to their guns in this day and age on the Walmartization of broadcasting in the United States.

I still can't quite figure out why there was still hourly news coverage on CBC2 (which I primarily listen to) on Tuesday then by Wednesday it disappeared. Now you have an irritating voicetracked announcement that "CBC programming has been disrupted due to a labor action" every 15 minutes.

I'm not sure what feed you're listening to but I've caught the hourly newscasts in the mornings all this week on Radio 2.

I am listening on the net here in San Diego. Usually it has been a simulcast of CBC Toronto/Peterborough.

Still the lack of substantive discussion is a bit boggling to me.

This is a forum that is mostly dedicated to commercial radio. Quite frankly, what's to discuss with this? The Union has been locked out and management are trying in thier usual bumbling style to run the network. Not really much to cover there.

I really don't see the distinction given that CBC-TV is for all intents and purposes a commercial broadcaster. You Canadians just don't realize what a jewel the CBC is -- this coming from a Yank with lots of ties to Canuckland.

Agreed...CBC Radio (1 & 2) is very special, indeed. A good portion of my teen years were spent listening to Nightlines & Brave New Waves on Radio 2. Would love to hear old airchecks of those shows ('84-'92).

CBC Radio is far superior to the leftist nonsense put out by NPR/PRI.
Just wish I could hear them in my car on XM!!!

I find this comment utterly mystifying. NPR's too left for you and CBC Radio One (which is ideologically very similar to NPR) isn't?

Actually, yes...NPR tends to wear its political ideology on its sleeve more so than CBC Radio One. There is a certain undeniably "leftist" snobbery tone on NPR that is less apparent (usually) on the CBC.

BTW...did you get your handle from the David Wilcox tune?

Ah, no, I hadn't actually thought of that at all. I was going on the fact that I'm technically a bear (in the homosexual sense of the word) but really more of a cat (in the "curl up and purr" sense).
