CBC/SRC Canada

Their a great debate in the National TV board about CPB (Corporation for Public Broadcasting) to be dissolve from the government. Should CBC and Radio-Canada (Radio and TV) be dissolve from the crown corporation (the Canadian government) and be privatized like the CTV, Citytv, and Global or they should keep as is as a government mouth piece?

Canada, like every other country on earth, needs publicly-funded broadcasting operating at arms length from the government. Years ago when the federal government funded CBC a lot more, they did a far superior job over what they are doing today. The journalistic credibility and reliability of CBC has decreased somewhat over those years, but is still far superior to some of what comes out of the United States. Having a major network offer strong substance over style forces private competitors to have a certain standard of service.

Sure enough, with CBC's fading into irrelevance, CTV has moved away from credible journalism, leaving Global National as the last credible national newscast that I'll actually go out of my way to watch.

The CBC isn't the only station in question.
Some would also like to see TVO sold off. (TV Ontario, and TVO French)

I have no comment on either station at this time.

TVO French, long since renamed TFO, was spun off into its own agency a couple of years ago, though it's still publicly-owned like TVO.

TVO should be spun off into a private, non-profit organization that doesn't have to rely so heavily on government funding. Their 40th anniversary has recently passed and they have almost completely faded into irrelevance in Ontario. They produce almost none of their own original programming, instead importing generic American and British stuff you can already get on PBS and some cable channels.

Sadly, like with the HST, Ontarians complain but don't do much about what they complain about.

I CAN STILL WRITE AN ESSAY ON WHY WE SHOULD STILL NOT VOTE CONSERVATIVE if we must go there!
