CBFT Translators in Newfoundland and Labrador

I have videotape of CBFT Montreal's sign on from some years ago. It lists CBFT's translator stations. All of them are in Quebec except for four:

13 Churchill Falls (T.-N.)
11 Labrador City (T.-N.)
13 Port-au-Port (T.-N.)
4 St. John's (T.-N.)

So why did those four cities get the CBFT feed and not programming from CBAFT Moncton, the SRC's primary station in the Maritimes? I assume the feed was not adjusted for the 1 1/2 hour time zone difference. If you only spoke French, I suppose you knew all about Quebec provincial news and politics but not much about Newfoundland and Labrador.

I think the tape is about 10 years old. It's preceded by the five artists in the loft painting a mural of Canada. And following the translator list is the National Anthem cartoon of a bird's eye view of Canada from West Coast to East. I assume those translators are now rebroadcasting CBAFT.

Probably picked up off of satellite directly (aka CBC North, which was either CBNT in the East or CBUT in the West) and just rebroadcast with no intervention required. Canada has rules regarding local content, and I doubt that there was enough French population in Terre Neuve to justify a full station or regional broadcaster.

IIRC, CBFT was available on sat as was CBMT in the clear (remember watching CBMT on satellite at the PBS station I worked at while in college).

Yes they are -- a few years back, CBFT's Newfoundland transmitters flipped to CBAFT, after that station became available on satellite.

On a slightly different tangent, CBFT had another out-of-Quebec repeater, CBFT-15 channel 7, in Whitehorse, Yukon. While still licensed as a CBFT repeater, I don't know if it still repeats CBFT, or if it repeats Vancouver's CBUFT (which would make more sense, as Whitehorse and YVR are in the same time zone). I've been wondering about this, as listings's for Northwestel's Whitehorse cable system has CBUFT in the analog tier, with CBFT available on digital.

A CBUFT sign-off clip I've seen on YouTube indicates that Whitehorse relays CBUFT.

Yes, on channel 7.
