CBS-19 Adds A Newscast

CBS 19 Tyler billboards recently up in East Texas are touting a 6:30 PM newscast weeknights covering Longview and Kilgore (and doubtless a few other towns). The news department seems to be thinly spread already, so the question relates to how the logistics will play out in producing all the other newscasts of the day, then having personnel mining additional stories for the new 6:30 cast. It will do little good to simply recycle stories from the 6PM show and then add a few stories od lesser substance from the Lvw-Kilgore-wherever areas to form up the additional newscast. Could this be the show place for the former Playboy model over whom so much bally-hoo arose several weeks ago?

A few pundits in the area say teaming sex and the news at 6:30 would truly be known as Hurley's Folly.

Interesting to watch, beginning Sept 18. Could be a seller, could be a water haul.

They should take those resources and move that newscast to the 11AM hour to give KLTV and KYTX a run for their money........I've only seen one successful newscast at 6:30 and that's KTRK in Houston.....

Could be some convention to that thought. CBS 19 plainly had to decide wheteher it wanted the added newscast to counter yet other, more established news shows around mid-day or go up against the traditional 6:30PM game show and tabloid fare.

Regardless of the time slot, the choice of highest interest is the anchor. Playboy goddess solo or teamed with a co-anchor, or someone else from the staff or still yet someone imported for the job. Can't see 19 adding personnel just for a shot in the dark, since staffing seems to be rather tight already.

There are more eyes in front of the TV at 6:30p than there are at 11a. Therefore, there's more money to be had. There's your answer.
