CBS' 2010-2011 Lineup Is Revealed

I wonder what the Parents Television Council thinks about CBS scheduling this show in the latter half of the 8 PM ET "family viewing hour"...

Wow... As if almost on cue! Did I call this, or what?
http://www.broadcastingcable.com/article/452905-PTC_Takes_Aim_At_My_Dad_Says_.php

"CBS intentionally chose to insert an expletive into the actual name of a show, and, despite its claim that the word will be bleeped, it is just CBS’ latest demonstration of its contempt for families and the public..."

PTC pointed out that CBS announced the show the same day it filed a brief in the ongoing Janet Jackson Super Bowl halftime show reveal case indicating it did not intend to air any breast-baring.

That's it - I'm starting a Facebook page petitioning Janet Jackson to appear as a recurring character on "(Things) My Dad Says"! ;D

Thanks for the link.

According to the responses, I am not alone in my feelings towards these jack@sses.

We have real, serious problems in this country, that need resolution. The fact that these morons continue to drone on about commonplace words like "Sh*t" means that they have entirely too much time on their hands.

In a day, I'm guessing the average American hears sh*t five times more than they hear the word love. The PTC needs to choose their battles more wisely.

In their press release, they have the audacity to say this.....
The PTC will not stand silent and allow this program title to become the new accepted norm.
Umm....I hate to say it but IT ALREADY IS the "norm"

It's a little too late for them to start complaining NOW, dontcha think??

Cheers :D

CBS will "cave" and change the show title before the fall season. They are going to exploit the PTC publicity for all they can. My prediction: About two weeks before the season begins the title will be changed to "Stuff my Dad Says"

The title of this new TV program from CBS and a recent movie titled "Kick-Ass" only remind folks who would never say such words (unless the word in the movie title is in reference to donkeys or silly peopple) how unpleasant society has become. These titles will only hurt these productions when it comes to promotions, as many broadcasters will not be saying the proper title of the CBS program, which could have been titled "Stuff My Dad Says", which will most likely become the alternate title, as "(bleep) My Dad Says" is ridiculous.

Everyone should feel comfortable saying the title of a TV program or movie without upsetting or embarrassing anyone.

The problem as I see it is twofold.

First of all, if you are going to say the word, SAY IT. Don't write it and put symbols in place of the word. If you have to do that, than why bother?

Second is the fact we need to learn to be polite. Yes, bring this back. So what if you hear the word everyday. I have a temp job in a factory where every other word is MF, this and MF that. I don't want to hear about your sex life and the details of how you decide to (as Sheldon would say) have coitis or your desire to.

Yet this is common to me? Should we allow it on TV, just because it's common to some people?

Certain words are offensive to people. A title isn't going to make or break a show. At least I hope not. If it does it's a sad commentary.

I ride the bus and now I have to put up with people scream MF this and telling me al their personal issues. What happened to a nice quiet ride home and not airing your laundry in public.

There is a time and a place for everything. And using a chickensh-t symbol to capitalize on title you know darn well will offend a large number of people is simply trying to promote a program through controversy instead of quality

Well put. In fact, that's exactly what I think CBS is doing.

as P.T. Barnum once said, there's a sucker born every minute!

This is the most publicity any new show could ever hope to get for "%#&$@!"
without one dollar of additional investment. Someone in the Marketing Dept.
is going to be getting a fat bonus plus a promotion!

Maybe not... According to a research spokesperson for CBS: "...the network did plenty of research into the title and is completely comfortable with the result of the testing, which included focus groups."

The above link also notes that references to the show in promos and such will be the word "bleep" and not the sound "bleep," i.e. the voiceover will say "Bleep My Dad Says."

The sound and the word "bleep" are ridiculous either way.

I guess it looks like "(Bleep/Stuff/Crap) My Dad Says" will get the "Book of Daniel" thrown at it!

This reminds me of every time Terry Crisp had to plug the "BDSSP" on Fox Sports Net during Nashville Predator games (for those playing at home, it's The Best Damn Sports Show Period*)

* It "was" The Best Damn Sports Show Period until about 2 years or so ago...

I like how it was eventually known as simply "Best Damn" for short... or in Terry's case, "BD"?

I think S**t My Dad Says will be a flop too.

I love the BBT! Sheldon and Penny are so funny! I wonder how it will do on Thu. nights. Been promoting it a lot.
