CBS 3 acts unproffessional over a stupid football game

I don't know how many of you saw CBS 3's 6:30 newscast this evening, but they had reporters wearing Eagles jerseys. So much for them being an unbiased news source. That is just wrong and unprofessional.

I honestly dont know what you were expecting from a......wait, let me check the map.....a PHILADELPHIA news station. Bias doesnt come into play in sports coverage, OF COURSE theyre going to be behind the local team. Now if Mendte showed up on screen Monday with a Rendell pin on his tie, whole different story, but reporters wearing some dopey jerseys on one of the biggest Eagles game days this season? Its called team spirit/dumb gimmick.

Why the hate for KYW?

The only time I saw something like that in New York was 30 September 2005 when the entire Good Day New York team was decked out in Yankees gear. Then again it is a Fox O&O and we all know how fair and balanced Fox is. It did get panned in the print media as wrong and a conflict of interest. However, from the limited description, I am guessing it wasn't like the GDNY incident of 2005 and was just isolated to a few reports.

As for Mr. Mendte, he looked like an idiot trying to be serious during this morning's NJ Senate debate on WCBS. One of Roz Abrams’ wigs has more gravitas than Mendte and he made Jim Rosenfield look like some combination of Walter Cronkite, Edward R. Murrow, and Chuck Scarborough. Who in their right mind would even think that the former co-host of Access Hollywood should be a news anchor. I am just glad he isn't on WCBS, not that I really watch WCBS.

I think you mean CBS 3 acts unprofessionally over a stupid football game.
Who said they are an unbiased news source?
This is local TV news.
It ain't real journalism.

I thought we had all learned by now from the constant reminders to Julius that we should give credit to sites we quote directly from? And this topic isnt about peoples opinions on Larry (who i thought performed well in the debate and whose backround has nothing to do with his current position), its about unfairly bashing KYW for playing up the football game.

If you KNOW Toby was quoting a website, then YOU should have provided the name and link when you pointed it out. So far, beyond your allegation, I have no reason to think the comments in Toby's post did not originate with him.

And his background in trash tabloid TV has EVERYTHING to do with his current position. Of course, since all local TV newscasts have turned into tabloid trash (excepting channel 69), hiring a TeleprompTer reader from that background seems appropriate.

I could see a problem if a KYW reporter was wearing an Eagles jersey......while covering a double homicide in Feltonville. But, let's be serious here. So far, yesterday's TO debacle would be only second to when and if the Birds can win the big one. If they have a good shot to take it all, you'll see LOTS of Eagles jerseys.

It's dumb when you think about it.
They didn't carry the game (Fox29 did).
Why promote it?

But what we have is more consultant-driven happy talk.
This is just more of the usual inane chatter designed to show that the super-rich TV Kens and Barbies are really just regular folks like you, and would be your friend if they ever met you.
This is in contrast to the era of the Facendas and the Cronkites when TV news readers were authority figures (like your doctor, your minister, your principal or your father). They had the job because they were smarter than you and knew more than you and you knew you could count on them to give it to you straight. But they weren't your buddy who'd sit in a bar and watch the Iggles with you.
Familiarity does breed contempt. News readers may be more likeable but people don't trust TV like they used to.

Even worse was that the North Koreans exploded a nuke last night and while CNN, MSNBC and Fox News were all over this breaking story at 11 or so - where were the Philly locals?

LIVE at the (darkened) stadium of course! Channels 3, 6, 10 and 29 were wall to wall iggels. Now that's what I call fiddling while Rome burns. But hey priorities are priorities, right?

I can see why Comcast LOVES to be in Philly - without cable, you'd never know what's going on in the world.

Its not the reader's job to give credit to a website for another poster's comments. And if Toby runs Random Observations at least throw yourself a site plug, but i thought that was nertz's site anyway.

EXACTLY so, come on, dont single Larry boy out. Hes no worse than whoever else he is competing against at any given timeslot.

Anybody else laugh out loud at that line/mental image? Great point Rob.

How about if Donovan and TO had shot it out in front of the Linc and a KYW reporter showed up in an Eagles' jersey?

Larry is actually better/worse than the news readers on other channels (including his wife) since he actually made it into national syndication doing tabloid trash. Now that Jerry Springer appears out as a syndicated liberal talk show host, maybe channel 10 could sign him up. Or maybe Maury and Connie reading news together (and instead of happy talk, they bicker between stories like Regis and Kelli/Cathy Lee).

I don't have a web site.

The football jersey incident just illustrates how bad the local news is here.
Sadly WFMZ is the only local station with an actual newscast.
