CBS 3 Move

Just wondering. When CBS 3 moves into their new building will CW 57, WYSP, and KYW radio move with them, or will they stay at the old location? Also, will eyewitness news get a new set, or are they bringing the old one with them?

I've heard a couple of the WYSP jocks talking about "when they get to the new studios..." recently..Take that for what you will...

Re: CBS 3 Move scoop

All of them will be going to the new digs in Spring Garden in March. This is when they will debut HD for the local programming, i.e. the newscasts...Look for a completely new -- smokin' set too for EyeWitness News as well as new sets for weather and traffic. There will also be a 'rooftop weather patio' with a mounted camera where weather talent can do stuff with both Liberty One and Two in the background as well as the Center City skyline. Should be real impressive!

I heard somewhere the current KYW/WPSG/WYSP facility will be demolished after the stations vacate. Is this true?

Yes. The Museum of American Jewish History is putting its new facility at 5th and Market.

I had heard KYW and WYSP were moving nearby while the TV stations were going to 15th and Spring Garden.
Is this true?

WYSP and KYW Radio will be moving to an office building next door at 4th & Market to their present studios. Channels 3 and 57 will be movingto a renovated office complex at 15 & Spring Garden. This will all happen this year.

That doesn't make any sense that 1060 and 94.1 won't be in the same building as the TV stations.

Perhaps there wasnt enough space at the new Spring Garden place. I'm pretty sure they had that place on lock for a while, they've been doing work on the building for what seems like FOREVER. Recently, a bunch of food places opened up on the ground floor. It could also be that they just wanna split up radio and tv on purpose. Its gonna suck when Larry Mendte's sporadic visits to Kidd Chris end.

Isn't this all said to be happenening by March (which realisticly might end up being may)?

Does this mean we'll have to bid farewell to that plasma set behing the sports anchors with the burned-in 3 logo? It's the TV that watches back with that creepy eye.

I am SO GLAD that this is being noticed by people. Most of their plasma have the CBS3 Eyewitness News logo burnt in. Stations wanna have their plasma count wars, but they need to learn now to take CARE of their 20 plasma TVs.

KYW-AM and WYSP were never part of the planned move to Spring Garden St. The new location has plenty of space if the two radio stations wanted to move there... but since they are a completely different division of CBS, they negotiated a separate lease.

The TV move will take place in stages, beginning with non-broadcast departments for KYW/WPSG relocating in mid-Feb. A few weeks after that, when Feb sweeps is finished, the remaining departments will move. There's no firm date for the final broadcast at 5th and Market, but it's safe to say it will occur before St. Patrick's Day.

I'll miss Tom Lamaine saying "34 degrees by the Bell." :'(

Rittenhouse Sq. (ex-home of WIP), City Line Ave. (still home of Ch. 6 and 10 and ex-home of formerly-Famous 56), and Independence Mall (about to lose Ch. 3) were to me the three great Philadelphia broadcasting addresses when I was making my way through adolescence in the '70s (with honorable mention to WKBS-48 on 26th St.). The moves of 610, 560 and (soon) Ch. 3 have stripped those addresses of a substantial portion of their identities where I'm concerned. I file them with Veterans Stadium's disappearance. Well, I guess when you've been living 45 1/3 years a lot of changes in your old home metro area can be expected. ::)

Yes. The 5th and Market CBS3 complex will be demolished and replaced with a Jewish Heritage Museum.

The Museum of American Jewish History is currently on the other side of Market Street. It had planned to build a larger facility on its current property, but 5th and Market will be a more visible location. The Sephardic synagogue that meets in the current MAJH building will remain there.

If you have the opportunity to visit the Museum, I highly recommend it.

How are they going to get the video and audio from the TV control room at 5th and Market to the Master Control Room on Spring Garden (where all video is sent out of CBS3/Philly 57)? are they going to have a live truck sitting outside 5th and Market (with its mast up, not just parked) for a few weeks?

There will only be about 2 or 3 weeks when this will be necessary, but they will feed the newscasts from 5th & Market's news control room to the Spring Garden master control via fiber. From there, it'll go out to Roxborough.
