CBS 46

I saw something really annoying last week while in Mississippi. WTVA in Tupelo keeps their silly-looking "9" bug (very stylized and hard to read) up ALL the time, even during commercials. They never took it down, even when there was other text at the bottom of the screen or when the credits were rolling at the end of a show.

It's the most annoying thing (I currently live in the Tupelo/Columbus market)! The two other stations WTVA controls (WKDH-45-ABC and WLOV-27-FOX) do the same thing...only those two bugs are worse, nearly opaque.

WTVA leaves the bug up 24-hours per day. During NBC programming, its to the left of the peacock but during syndicated programming it moved over to the right, slightly.

If I'm not mistake, WTVA has been using that stylized "9" logo for many years. When I went to college the first time (at Murray State, KY) one of my journalism professors had a WTVA license plate 'gimme' that had the same design.

At least these are somewhat transparent. Over in Europe, they are big, in color (not transparent) and up all of the time, even when they are showing paid adverts or the even when the station has signed off and is showing the color bars, the bug is still up......

Yuck. I hate the TV stations here, in Tupelo/Columbus. As I said WTVA controls both the ABC affiliate (WKDH-45) and Fox affiliate (WLOV-27). WTVA is the only station of the three to broadcast actual programming 24-hours. Both WKDH and WLOV "sign-off" at around 1:00am, but they don't power down the transmitter nor do they show color bars. No, they put the local radar feed up.

I can under stand WLOV, because Fox doesn't provide network programming overnight...but, um, why not just carry the ABC overnight programming, "World News Now" (and bookend it with infomercials) since they are obviously still broadcasting at full power?

Back about 5 years ago, NBC 15 in Mobile used to leave up the time, temperature, as well as the station logo in the bottom right corner 24 hours. They may still do it, but I don't know since I don't live there anymore. It was annoying for a while, but I got used to it and it became quite handy at times.

The only time they would take it down was when there was a tropical system in the Carribean or the Gulf. Then, they would give the name, co-ordinates, and wind speed of the storm. I assume they still do that too.
