CBS Affiliate's News Dept. Apologizes To Viewers

Here is my question: How many times are these "apologies" really just a disguised effort to call more attention to the news operation? Not saying this is the case here, but I suspect this is in the warbook for many affiliates.
 
As I mentioned on the Atlanta TV board, someone should be fired at WGCL for this mistake. The woman involved should also sue WGCL and Meredith (the station's owner) for emotional distress.
 
WTNH-TV aired the video in Connecticut? Strange, since Merideth Broadcasting owns market rival WFSB-TV channel 3 in Hartford. :O
 
Taking Schwaid's comments at face value, my response is, how is this any different from television and radio stations playing audio clips of 911 phone calls? Both are in poor taste, IMO.
