CBS After NFL On 01/23

(Disclaimer: based on zap2it.com listings as of tonight)

This coming Sunday 01/23/11, after the AFC Championship game scheduled 6:30-10 PM ET,
CBS has slotted a new episode of Hawaii Five-0 at 10/9. I thought it would be scheduled as
a "live to all stations" feed, what with the game figuring to be a good lead-in.

This does hold true on the left coast, as the various markets I checked (LAX/SAN/SFO/LAS/
RNO/PDX/SEA/GEG) list NFL 3:30-7 PT, followed by "Book 'em Danno" 7-8 PT.

Then there's the Mountain Time Zone. Of the markets I checked, these affiliates have 5-0
scheduled right after football at 8-9 PM MT: DEN/SLC/BOI/GJT/YUM; however these markets
are delaying it until 9-10 PM MT: PHX/TUS/ABQ/ELP/COS/IDA.

The "delayed" markets probably want the 5-0 lead-in for their late news (as in ET/CT), and
I suppose CBS didn't outright demand that it air in the "live" slot. Or maybe the Eye execs
are voracious readers of the R-I boards and will so insist, after reading this. ;)

BTW, network repeats appear to fill the 8-9 or 9-10 hour in MT, and 8-11 PT.

So, in other words, this is CBS' "Super Bowl" this year.

By the way, I guess it's a relief to Joe Buck that he won't be calling anymore games with the Falcons in them anytime soon!

One day before the "(almost) big games" I re-checked zap2it.com and found two MT markets
(Tucson, Colorado Springs) had switched 5-0 from 9 PM back to 8 PM "live."

None of the previously 8 PM live MT markets had changed to delayed at 9 PM.

And not wanting to leave out Montana and Wyoming...today's check has Billings and Great Falls
going with the live at 8 bunch, while Casper and Cheyenne are opting for delayed at 9.

Well, of course, Fox is going to carry the Super Bowl this year... What I meant by that comment was that the AFC Championship Game this Sunday, airing in primetime, could potentially be among the highest-rated football telecasts on CBS this season, if not in recent history.

So that's what I meant by this being CBS' "Super Bowl". ;D

This game , barring o.t., will be over by 8:20pm mountain. Probably a 15 minute post-game, bringing the zone to 8:35. I would guess most mountain affiliates will go directly into "Hawaii", and probably start their news a bit early. No big problems here in the mountain west, providing the newsrooms and boardops are on top of such.

EDIT: The game is moving faster than expected. My guess most MTN affiliates will go into Hawaii, then fill with some syndicated programming, or go local news early.

Perhaps others in the Mountain zone in the "9 PM delayed" markets can report in
as to when 5-0 actually aired. As for Phoenix, it turns out KPHO-TV stuck with the
live network for 5-0 after the NFL postgame (started approx. 8:13:30 MT), even
though the zap2it.com listings still have it at 9. KPHO ran a crawl stating that one
Rules Of Engagement filler rerun will follow, then an early start to their 10 PM news.

Now then, let's talk about CBS before NFL on 1/23. Their coverage started at 6 PM, which would have likely pre-empted local newscasts (as was the case on WCBS, opting for "The Tim McCarver Show" as a lead-in). With that said, did any CBS affiliates air a newscast at a special time right before the NFL coverage? Also, I don't think "CBS News" was produced yesterday.
