CBS and Live 105 morning show can't work deal.

I am not intending to be a bitch but can someone tell me what the big deal is with WOody? San Francisco mornings with a L.A. gig on hold, seriously, what makes him so good? ???

To my ears it's not all that good of a show, but it does have value. Across the country there simply are not that many good local morning shows around anymore. In recent years so many stations have chosen syndicated morning shows, which sort of thinned out the minor league system where good shows used to develop. If your station has a local morning show that is decent, there is a good deal of motivation to hang onto it.

Carolla didn't do well on 106.9 before relegated to am, even with a massive outdoor promotional campaign. SF has historically done badly with out of market shows, witness the on-fire (at the time) Mark and Brian attempting their LA show on the Rocker years ago...absolutely flat in SF, as is the position of the 3 AMs showcasing out-of-market talent.

I agree.

Also, the former Free FM shows, Adam, Leykis and Opie & Anthony are only on the a.m. station until their CBS contracts run out in SF. The word is CBS sent them there "to die." Leykis has another 4 years left of his CBS contract. Not sure about the others.

As for not be able to find those shows. All it takes is a simple visit to 1069freefm.com and dedicated fans, wondering lost after their shows can see they are moved over to 1550 a.m. I'm not sure what to say. I would think people would search for their shows, without having to stumble upon them, like one poster alluded to.

Right - and Mark & Brian never rated well in SF despite a number of trips up north to air their show from the Bay Area, and despite the enormous publicity they received from the shower they took with then San Francisco Mayor Frank Jordan. One of the dumbest moves by a politician ever.

Even though they didn't get ratings, they helped get Willie Brown elected Mayor.

The big deal is that Woody would be a pretty good solo air talent doing PM drive at KROQ, who btw has been running an ad in the trades for PM drive for three months. He doesn't seem to have any of the KROQ tude, but maybe that sound is dying out anyway in LA.

But there does seem to be an obvious connection between the LA gig and the AM show situation in SF. KROQ is prolly hoping some young talent shows up that doesn't suck, but good luck there. Seems like middle age Woody is a better match in SF mornings than PM drive at KROQ.

KROQ is totally his backup plan if the Woody Show doesn't get renewed. I don't know how much more she knows about the situation than what we've all speculated.

How "strong" are his numbers at KYCY/1550?

Adam's numbers have boosted the ratings of KYCY/1500. But it's not to say, it's a group effort from all the former Free FM shows. KYCY is still the lowest rated station in the San Francisco market. Yes, Adam was the top rated show, compared to anyone else on 1069 Free FM. However, the debate about Adam being on 1069 Free FM and what he did for that station, compared to others is an entirely different topic, discussed in many previous threads.

well i do work there but no , i dont know everything.i do however talk to woody every day since he comes in after me.
yes the KROQ gig was for fun, but if the contract situation ends with the guys leaving, there is a good chance woody will end up doing afternoons there.
it never hurts to have those allies in a situation like this....thats why I have a weekend gig in sac, if it turns to a full time gig for me bye bye live....

Announced this morning, one more year of the Woody show.

Also, I agree with Leanne's post above. It's nice to have something else in the work mix. I can't bag on Woody for watching his own career's backside.
