CBS Atlanta News Apologizes

Apparently, in their quest to "Ask The Tough Questions™", they not only ended up breaking the news to the wife of the guy arrested, they took video of her crying hysterically on the floor, and aired it on television, as well as posting it to their website. Several viewers called them out on it.

Someone needs to lose their job over this. I hope she sues WGCL and Meredith for emotional distress. I don't know a jury that would not sympathize with her.

Explain.

Not to speak for jal41, but isn't it a little beyond moral to show the dramatic reaction of the wife of a murder suspect? Not the victim, mind you... the suspect. When you consider the details of the gruesome act, I would not show a single ounce of remorse for the killer's poor wife (IMHO).

By the way, did I mention it's sweeps month?

Here's the 10 million dollar question: does the video of this story still exist on the internets? I want to see what all the fuss is about!

Well, the this is just my opinion, I hope she does sue for what reason possible, and I hope she wins big time. I believe the media really sometimes needs a slap in the face for how they broadcast the news, and show stuff like this. Good luck to the wife, and all the problems she is about to run into. I feel really sorry for her and the stress that has just been dumped on her.

That's just my opinion, take it or leave it.

She'd have to sue for INTENTIONAL infliction of emotional distress - in this case I think it wasn't intentional, just stupid, stupid, stupid.

Actually civil law is more liberal than this, it doesn't have to be an intentional act for liability to be present. She could theoretically sue for recklessness or negligence; the award might not be as great but the standard of liability is low enough to suggest she might have a case. Say if the station already had a policy about what it does and does not air, and it was neglected -- see what I mean?
