CBS Atlanta News - Interesting Top Story Choice

Today (Tuesday 11/9/10), WGCL's 4 PM newscast had an intersting top story...a school bus that failed to stop at a stop sign. That is right. A WGCL cameraman took video of a school bus driver failing to stop at a stop sign...and it was the top story. They also solicited video from viewers of other school bus drivers doing the same thing.

If this were Glendive, MT and KXGN, this might be big news. But in the 7th largest television market...this is laughable at best. WGCL is proving why they will never catch up to the big three (WSB, WAGA, WXIA)...ever!

I watch them and it reminds me of the news I used to watch in Lake Charles, LA or Hattiesburg, MS.... very professional graphics and news sounders... then the actual news starts.

I wonder if the cameraman was looking for drivers that pass buses with red lights flashing, only to end up capturing something else, instead.

I know this is not a "bleed to lead" story, but they can do something much better than that.

I don't know about ATL, but nothing beats (not even the most brutal murders) school bus stories in Charlotte. In fact, top rated and Cox owned WSOC/9 did a school bus driver caught texting story last week. No, it didn't happen in Charlotte---instead in Greensboro 100 miles away, where a driver was caught on hidden camera texting. Yeah, totally rediculous, but don't think WGCL is the only one who does it...
