CBS AX FALLS

In today's business climate the AX will be in use just about everywhere. After the politcal season, folks will see just how bad it is. IMO the radio business is in for a rough road.

Maybe Marvin has the day off? Please stop these RUMORS! Cheers A DJ at 1620am WBUL who someday wants to work at Q 105! 8)

If that's true, that's sad news all the way around. Marvin is one of the best talents in Tampa Bay, and the entire WSJT staff was top shelf. I wish them all the best and hope they land on their feet.

it sure would be if its TRUE,as he along with The Late Scott Robbins was the reason why I wanted to be a DJ(I start year # 8 on 1620am WBUL very soon)! Cheers 8)

so will RICO be the NEW 10-3 or will they hire someone else? I thought Marc Haze was at a poker gig? Who will do the Midnight-5am shift on Q 105? Cheers 8)

Sorry, Dr Lovetrain, but this is what is happening to radio these days. As a DJ with seven years experience at a college station, I'm sure you are getting paid about what a DJ with seven years experience at a commercial station can expect.

As Paul the apostle said, "The love of money is the root of all evil". Unfortunately, that evil has taken some of the nicest people in Radio away from us... for now, anyway. I hope to hear Al, Marvin and Marc on the air again very soon.

To all of you who have been affected by this terrible day, we have all been blessed to work with you and be able to listen to you. May you be blessed again with new jobs doing what you have done so well.

To Everyone who lost their jobs.

Good Luck. Just stay positive. It sucks.

Does this mean there are only 2 sports radio stations now. 620 and 1040/1470?

October 10--El Lay. Monday--Frisco. Today--Tampa Bay.
Previously--DFW, Boston, Phoenix, Portland (just from
memory, I'm sure I'm leaving out others).

What market will the Dan Mason Circus Of Doom visit next? ::)

Gee, remember when we all thought Mason was--to borrow
an El Rushbo term--the Messiah, who will lead CBS out of the
radio dump created by Joel Hollander?

Oh I know Midnight-5am is Voice Tracked, but whose voice will you hear? is Rico gonna be the NEW 10am-3pm DJ or will they hire someone else? Could they at least have Marvin say goodbye? A DJ at 1620am ???

Q105 must have axed their webmaster too, because all the personalities you mention are still listed on the respective pages. ;)

On the other hand, WSJT's web site has been dead all day.

Man..Marvin Boone is one of the smartest music people in the industry. I would not have thought that the cuts would hit a guy like him, but there you go...this new economy is creating a new industry that used to be broadcasting..sad really. I guess the really sad part is that Marvin made a commitment to the market, and the market let him down..what's next for a guy like him? No way to predict. Hope he can land somewhere that will allow listeners who know him..enjoy him. He really is one of the best in the market.

On another note..is it my imagination but were there a lot of "producers" of morning shows in the market? Marc seemed like a nice guy, but what does a producer of a morning show really do? With the ease of getting show prep from the internet it almost seems like an outmoded position..that could (sorry Marc) be eliminated with out a lot of issue..

1010? What to do with that? Dr. Frank sure built a beautiful plant there..must be something that would fly on 1010. Simulcasting is so useless.

This business is eating itself alive. So many talented, entertaining, and LOCAL performers tossed aside, just because the be-suited bean-counters aren't getting their 30% a year growth (probably negative numbers about now).

Radio continues to move farther and farther from local content, which will make it more and more unsuccessful (and mostly devoid of interesting content). During the Great Depression, Americans turned to their radios for solace, entertainment, and words of hope from FDR. Now it's either the same old music with liners by pukey readers 1000 miles away, or hate radio from right-wing fear-mongers.

FDR was right about "fear itself"....

During the Depression ( the first one), there was no cable news nor had Al Gore invented the internet and John McCain was yet to invent the Blackberry. Although the competition is fierce, I blame deregulation for the mess . Just like deregulation started the ball rolling to destroy the airline industry, allowing a few companies to own so many stations in each market killed competition. Seems like less regulation is bad for business. Too bad nobody thought of that in 1980.

This just in to our newsroom...

(You still have a news department?)

No, the morning sidekick just reads stuff out of the newspaper.

Anyway, as noted in the rotating beacon-o-topics above the fold
on the R-I Boards page, the Dan Mason Circus Of Doom--with its
featured act "The Bean Counters Who Wrecked Radio"--apparently
rolled through Charlotte on Tuesday, on its way to Tampa Bay.
