CBS Radio has decided to blow into South Carolina. They are eager to buy stations in vacation spots that Northerners frequent, knowing that people from up north are eager to listen to stations with their sound.
In Myrtle Beach, they have bought WEZV 105.9 and WYEZ 94.5. CBS has decided to change the format on 94.5. 94.5 will become Now 94.5, following their lead in New York at 92.3 Now FM. It will be all local jocks daytime and syndicated shows nighttime. It will be a CHR that will sound like 92.3 in New York. CBS hopes for higher ratings than their NY counterpart. 105.9's format will be adjusted to add more adult hits and sound more hip.
Charleston will enjoy the new changes. 105.5 WCOO and 98.1 WYBB will be bought from LM Communications. Both stations will have radical changes. 98.1 will become the pure rock station locally. They will air all genres of rock, and will try to be like KROQ in Los Angeles breaking new songs from local artists.
105.5 will become the personality station in the market. They will be the oldies station with a heavy community presence. They will have personalities that haven't been heard in the market like Kain Cameron, and will sound like their sister station in Orlando, 105.9. They will have a local news department that gets out in the community, and does more than the news on our local talk stations. They are looking at other signals. It will be interesting.
