CBS Cancels Wednesday's Comedy Shows

Looks like CBS has said they will cancel "Still Standing" and "Yes, Dear" on Wednesday nights. "Still Standing" and "Yes, Dear" said to be canceled due to low ratings. CBS is said to be moving its news comedy "Courting Alex" at 8:00pm and the new "Out of Practice to 8:30pm which was on at 9:30pm Monday's. With that said Monday March 13 the new "Louis-Dreyfus Show" will get the 9:30pm time after "Two and A Half Men".

It's About Time!

If it wasn’t for the canned laughter inserted in those programs, you could hear a fly fart. Those shows are just not funny.

As for Julia Louis Dreyfus, this makes what, three shows she’s tried since Seinfeld left the airwaves? Unless she has a great group of writers, I predict her latest attempt won’t last the season.

Dreyfus, along with Jason Alexander and Michael Richards should just live off the residuals from Seinfeld and make guest appearances. It’s quite obvious those three don’t have the talent to make it on their own without Jerry.

I guess then there's no hope for George Lopez, According to Jim, Rodney or Freddie either.

All of those shows were pretty much the same

Out of Practice is no different than Still Standing except for bigger names

Courting Alex may survive for being different (Or being a Sex & The City ripoff)

There has to be something different from a sitcom

That's why Two & a Half Men and My Name is Earl has been sucessfull

This new Julia Louis Dreyfus sitcom seems to be similar to Freddie

than it is being real funny

The cast of "yes dear" and the network admit that the show had been canceled three times already, but was brought back because costs were lower than other shows, and syndication ratings were pretty good over at TBS. In its first two years, this show was one of the worst ever...but over time it got a little more realistic, and the writing improved.

As for "Still Standing", most people who don't like it are single, divorced or have never been married with kids. Trust me. Theres a lot in that show that happens in families here in the states. I thought it was funny. Moving it from mondays was its death knell....

The next to go will be Two and a half men after next season if they don't get away from the flatulence jokes, and harder edged humor which has permiated this season. It would appear the writers and producers headed this way because they've run out of ideas. At first it was very cute, funny and managed to mix adult humor with the presence of a kid....who, as likeable as he can be, is being fed a steady diet of bitter dialogue.....
Last year it was flat out funny. this year...like Raymonds fifth season, is turning out to be often cruel and painfully unfunny.

As much as I think Henry Winkler is a nice guy, and good behind the scenes of shows (I submit the "April Fools 2005" edition of Hollywood Squares as one of the single funniest things he ever cooked up as an example), as a 50 plus comic actor, hes not coming across on "Practice". The mere fact I can see Stockard Channing, conservatively dressed or not, keeps me watching. The actor who plays the youngest son is from the UPN pulled-too-soon "Jake 2.0" and NBCs neat, but also pulled too soon "Medical Investigation"

I tend to disasgree. There are lots of example of talented people who don't have the right roles. Jerry Van Dyke is the ultimate. Until Coach came along he was pretty much useless. But he came into his own on that role

Jason Alexander's last sitcom was marginal only because of the casting. Jason had NO CHEMISTRY with anyone on the show. He wasn't believable as a father to those kids. And with "THEO" from "Cosby" has his friend? And he was supposed to be an ex-football player?

With the right roles these Seinfeld alumni could make it.

How are these shows the same? Other than being a show about a family. Out of Practice besides showing how well Stockard Channing aged. (Compare her to her Grease castmate Olivia Newton-John and you see how beautiful Stockard still is)

This show seems to be an near copy of Dharma and Greg with Dharma taking the Greg role

I think it's comically ironic that CBS moved The King of Queens back to Monday when it was the only comedy ever to hold it's own on Wednesday nights for CBS. It gave the network a beachead there. Going back to The Nanny which was virtually cancelled on its Wednesday run till in the summer repeats it was aired on Monday night as well.

Three And A Half Men is a poor sucsessor to previous Monday night 9pm (8pm CT) hits, like Murphy Brown etc... Though Charlie Sheen is excellent in his role he again has no chemistry with his cast. This was really noticable when Heather Locklear guest starred. And you could see how well those two went together instantly and how out of place the regular cast became.
______________

Charlie and Heather worked together for a year or two just a few years ago on "Spin City". That show was originally headlined by Michael J Fox who eventually bowed out due to health issues. Sheen replaced Fox. Locklear's character, if I'm not mistaken, was the love interest for Fox's character and stayed on after Fox left. Or.....maybe...she came along after he was gone to boost ratings which is usually why she is brought into an existing show (Melrose Place). I can't keep all her shows straight. Except for how good she looked in TJ Hooker.

ANYway, the point is...and I do have one...that Locklear and Sheen worked together not all that long ago so that would have provided some chemistry.

Actually, you can credit that to "Emily's Reasons Why Not" - look how successful THAT show turned out to be!
______________

Re: Spin City

I just started watching "Two and a Half Men" this season. I Love it! It has become of one of my favorite shows. On the other hand I'm glad that "Still Standing" has finally fallen down. It's horrible!
