CBS CHR's

Is it me or does CBS seem to have the best sounding CHR's?

They're not really corporate-controlled and most of their stations play A LOT of hit music and have an excellent presence. From listening to CBS stations, I'm quite impressed.

- B94 Pittsburgh
- KLUC in Vegas
- B96 in Chicago
- And previously Q102 in Cincy (But Bonneville still carries it well)
- Plus more... I haven't checked out yet.

CBS - wow.

Don't forget about 2 of my favorites: Kiss 95.1 Charlotte and Hot 95.7 Houston.
Couple that with 97.1 Amp Radio Los Angeles and Kiss 106.1 Seattle (which will soon be programmed by Clear Channel).

And boy let me tell you, these stations have amazing ratings right now! Oh wait, no they don't...

Kiss/Charlotte and Hot/Houston, I'll give you. The rest might "sound good," but there are a lot of stations with 2 shares that "sound good" to radio geeks like us. B94 was a lot of hype at re-launch that turned into a big dud, B96 is terrible these days, Q102 Cinci? Please. Kiss/Seattle, uhhhh... puke.

CBS has made some good moves to improve all of these things, but right now, not so good.

The ratings are really good at 98.5 KLUC Las Vegas, one of the stations mentioned here. They've recently added songs like "Gives You Hell" by All American Rejects, and "Untouched" by the Veronicas. Will be interesting to see if Rhythmic AC 93.1 The Party will decide to go head to head with them by flipping to CHR/Pop.
B-94 Pittsburgh is giving 96.1 Kiss FM a run for its money - B is up to a 3.2 while kiss is down to a 3.9.
Kiss in Seattle is up to a 3.7, it's highest ratings in a while. The on air lineup and music mix has always sounded great to us CHR fans, even though it's not necassarily always been appreciated by listeners in the Puget Sound area.
B-96 Chicago has been facing some fierce competition from 103.5 Kiss FM in recent years, and yes Kiss definitely seems to be winning this one.
Lastly, Q-102 Cincy is not your typical station. It sounds like Cincinnati, and the music reflection and mix is great - an Adult friendly CHR. It sounds totally different from 107.1 Kiss FM, which means the listeners win out in the end due to this differentiation.

Q102 has always been a great Adult CHR. It's pretty much stayed the same if not gotten hotter when Bonneville took over. I think CBS stations indeed sound good and DO give CC stations a run for their money. B94 is one of my favs and Kiss FM and Pittsburgh sounds HORRIBLE. Same with KISS in Cincy. HORRIBLE. Q102 is fun, interactive, and has a great little mix.
