CBS Classic Rock ?

to target The Eagle.

why not ? Eagle has big numbers and needs to share. WHPT doesn't fit the bill because they are talk half the time and the music is not the ''classic rock'' im talking about...too recent, limited playlist.....designed to co exist w Eagle....not take from of course

Q105 is an oldies/pop approach, right ?........a properly tuned classic rock could co-exist with Q targeting EAGLE.....or could it ?

IDK....until now all ive seen here as an idea is "urban ac"....which would be the better route ?

discussion please

I don't know that CBS is putting classic rock on any stations anywhere lately.

When they change formats typically it is to classic hits (already have that with Q105), CHR or Sports.

2 stations are already on the hd-2's. "Trippin'102-5" and "Thunder 103-5".

All it takes is a flip of a switch for either one. Get yourself an hd radio and your question solved.

What is HD? Is that a channel on your PC Hard Drive?

Personally I love classic rock.....especially the really good bands like Boston and Foreigner and Journey. " Don't Stop Believing" in classic rock!

I think that any format to succeed on 98.7 it has to be fairly unique. WLLD was sort of back in the early 2000's

It helps if you have a stand alone format that is not duplicated.

For any staton to succeed, it has to play poplular music......hits........and thats why classic rock is such a good format. Just play the songs everyone knows and loves.....Like Boston "More Than a Feeling", and the Eagles " Hotel California " and Foreigner " Feels Like The First Time"......they are all hits and very poplular.

Q is skewing older than it did a few months ago. Maybe this a prelude to a flip on WSJT

Maybe that is what happened to "smooth jazz". It ceased being unique when they dropped the "jazz".
It started sounding as though it was pushing itself into a "lite" music and away from the unique sound it had.

I couldn't disagree with you more. The last thing we need is another station playing, "More Than A Feeling", "Hotel California, and "Feels Like The First Time"... we already have a station that's worn those tired old songs out, the aforementioned Eagle. If you want a station to succeed, why not give people what they've been begging for? How about a station that plays all those classic artists, but not the songs we're SICK OF. I don't know about you, but I could do without hearing Hotel California ever again. Why does the Bone play "Stairway to Heaven"? This is ridiculous. There are so many great artists that never get played, and so many great songs that never get played. If I hear "Even Flow" one more time I'm going to blow my brains out!

Please, don't do that Cedric, you'll only get blood all over my monitor.

Playing those (burned to a crisp) 70's radio hits would put them too close to Q105 (which plays all of them). WSJT would have to skew more 80's/90's to protect the mothership. Of course, the market is already over-saturated with 80's/90's rock (98 Rock, The Bone, and to a certain extent Eagle).

An 80's-today "Jack" style format, however might just be the ticket, picking up where Q105 leaves off (mid-eighties). Or perhaps (longshot) a wide-playlisted "River" AAA. (Think less "Boston" and more "Elvis Costello").

I'd lean toward the former as it would have wider appeal.
