CBS Combined Contest

Both Oldies 103 & Mix 98.5 are offering a trip to Florida but aren't telling listeners it's the same contest. Got a announcement in the mail from Oldies that list the time to listen but then list the 98.5 phone line.

CBS just being CBS

Yeah, they ARE telling listeners...click here:

or try this one:

It's a collective contest...they are doing it within the FCC rules and regulations. As for "CBS being CBS", a lot of radio groups do collective contesting, this is not just CBS.

Nassau uses national contesting almost exclusively. Interesting to hear the same contest promo on 5 different stations. You'd think they'd customize it.

I love how CBS dumps out of records to execute the contest instead of using fill songs to backtime to the solicit. I've heard that before. Is that still how it's done?

Actually, I think that Clear Channel was the first to do this several years ago and they took a lot of heat for it because they didn't clearly disclose that these were "national" contests. In fact, they promoted them with the illusion that they were local contests - cleverly, they never actually lied about it - and (IIRC) ended up in court over it. Now, such promotions must be announced as combined or 'national' contests.

CBS is actually pretty late in the game and, if it's limited to 2 Boston stations, they're not actually being that unreasonable. Clear Channel had contests that pitted listeners from several hundred stations against each other!
